Pakistan: 3 Christians Freed from Forced Conversion and Marriage

Police freed a 12-year-old Christian girl, Saba Shafique, two months after she was abducted by a 35-year-old neighbor, Muhammad Ali, who forced her to convert to Islam and marry him. As of early March, she is now home with her family. (March 10, Chrisitan Daily International-Morning Star News)

A 15-year-old Christian girl, abducted five months ago by Muhammad Anees and four accomplices, was at last reunited with her family last Wednesday. Muhammad falsified papers forcing her into marriage and conversion to Islam. When her Catholic father, Yousaf Masih, an impoverished laborer at a brick kiln in Sambriel, registered the case, police ignored it. Yousaf persisted, but by the time they recovered her, she was four months pregnant and had suffered from repeated sexual, mental and physical trauma. Three of the accused, including Muhammad, were sent to prison and police are seeking to arrest the other two. (May 21, CDI-MSN)

A 37-year-old Christian mother of three was abducted twice by the same man from her job as a cleaner at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. The first time (January 11), Muhammad Asif Sadiq forcibly took her and made her sign papers to convert to Islam and marry him. Her real husband, Asif Maih, along with other relatives, urged local elders to force Muhammad to release her, which he did. But because Asif suffers from cancer and can no longer work, his wife had to return to her old job. Muhammad kidnapped her again on February 14, this time taking her to a different location. She was able to escape three days later, but Muhammad continues to threaten Asif, demanding he withdraw charges against him and return his “wife.” (March 5, CDI-MSN)

In an effort to curb and hopefully end forced marriages to children, Pakistan’s parliament passed a bill last Monday raising the legal age of marriage for both sexes to 18 years, with imprisonment and heavy fines for offenders.

Lord, please protect every Christian woman and girl all throughout Pakistan from abduction, rape, forced marriage and forced conversion to Islam. Be a Shield around Christian families. Grow them strong in faith, persistent in love, deep in knowledge and understanding of Your Word, faithful in obedience to You, and full of Your Spirit’s power to share the good news with their Muslim neighbors. We thank You, Lord, for the rescue of these children, and for making the way of escape for Asif’s wife. Please shield them now from further abductions by these men, all named Muhammad, and their accomplices. Please heal them physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally from the trauma they have endured. Bring Christians around them who will pray with them, counsel them and help them to healing. Have mercy also, please, Lord, on this innocent infant growing within Yousaf’s 15-year-old. Protect that life and place the child in a loving family that will lead him/her to You. Bring forth the arrest and imprisonment of all the men involved in her abduction and all abductions, and press forth this bill to make it into law, so that forced marriages of Christian children will be eradicated. Visit every Muslim terrorist and rapist in their dreams every night, all night long. Speak to them loudly every moment of the day. Give them no rest until they repent of their sin, lay down their evil false religion, and surrender to the One True God. Break the chains that bind them to demons of darkness, and set them free to know Jesus. Lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are, and by Your mercy, save them. Make their salvation such a spectacle, Muslims all around will hear of it, hunger for You and leave their religion of violence and fear to follow Jesus.
