Resurrection Miracle in India

More than 2,000 people groups, 95 percent of India’s population of 1.4 billion, are still unreached with the gospel. With the Hindu-majority nation among the most dangerous in the world for followers of Jesus, pastors and other Christians are often arrested or attacked by angry mobs because of their faith.

But in the midst of increased persecution, God is awakening the peoples of India to His love. Thousands have chosen to follow Christ in recent years, especially among the minority peoples and lower castes. With such deep faith in dark places, miracles like the one we reported yesterday are not uncommon. Even so, some may find today’s report even more shocking:

With no hospital nearby, a new believer from a remote village rushed her only child over 20 miles to the nearest local doctor’s home. He was burning with fever and suffering from severe illness.

By the time they arrived, the doctor declared him dead.

Heartbroken, she carried her lifeless son back home. But instead of giving in to despair, she clung to the hope she’d found in Jesus. Through tears, she declared, “I believe in Jesus—the One who raised Lazarus 2,000 years ago. He can do it again today.”

God’s Word had taken root in her heart and now, in her moment of deepest need, she put her faith into action.

She began to pray. Then, she reached out to the believers who had shared the Gospel story with her and asked them to join her in prayer from their homes. For two hours, they all cried out to God together.

And then—the lifeless child opened his eyes and came back to life.

Today, he is alive and well.

Lord, we thank You for this miracle of life, and pray for this precious boy that he will grow up loving You with all his heart and sharing Your good news with the lost. What a testimony to unbelieving neighbors that You are the God You say You are. Grow this family and the other believers in this community, and all throughout India strong in faith, enduring in love, faithful in witness, deep in knowledge of Your Word, and bold in witness. Continue to spread Your good news into every corner of India, drawing the lost up into Your arms. Make the way for every person to hear the Gospel in their heart language, and lift the veil from their eyes so they can see You as You truly are. We speak LIFE over India now, that the chains of sin and death will break and those who are lost and dying in worship of idols and sin will find You and live. Tear down every wall that keeps Hindus, Muslims and those who follow tribal religions from believing in Jesus and worshipping You alone as God. Break the chains that bind them to false gods and demonic forces. Pierce through the prejudice, rage, violence and all manner of evil with Your love and truth, and set them free to worship You alone as God. Visit them in their dreams. Show Yourself to them in visions. Work miracles in plain sight. Give them a deep, deep hunger for more in this life, for the love, joy and peace only Christ can give, and set them on a quest to seek You with all their heart and find You. Awaken India to You, O Lord. Break down the barriers of government and religion, and open up a corridor for Your Gospel to spread into every village, home and heart, setting the people free from sin and death forever. Protect every Christian. Don’t let any harm, violence or abuse come to them or anyone in their family. Bless them abundantly so they can bless others, and shine through them Your love and grace, planting new churches in every people group. May the peoples of India resound with singing unto You, declaring You are the One True God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
