During our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening March 1-30, while Muslims were fasting and seeking God for Ramadan, we prayed for them to find the Truth who sets them free. John 8:31-32. These are the stories of those in Uganda who came to Christ because you prayed, but also the Christians who died because of their faith.
As you pray through this news below,
- Note the stark difference between the hatred, violence, murder and terror in Islamists and the love and kindness in Christians. Pray Muslims will run from the horrors of Islam straight into Jesus’ loving arms.
- Pray for Christ to reveal Himself in such powerful ways to Muslim extremists (names in bold italics) they will fall to their knees in repentance and fear of the Lord, and give their lives in surrender to Him.
- Pray for protection, comfort and healing over Christian families (names and references in bold of those who survived murderous attacks and those who died, leaving grieving family members behind). Pray for an outpouring of God’s love through Christians to share the gospel with the lost, grow in their faith and forgive their persecutors.
- Pray for other believers in Uganda who are in danger, that God will be a Shield around them, and whenever anyone tries to come against them, they will see His angels and tremble in fear.
Nasiimu Mirembe, mother of six children ages 3-18, chose Jesus as her Savior when her Christian friend shared the gospel with her. But as they were on their way to Nasiimu’s first church service in Busembatya on March 16, a neighbor, Awudu Mbulalina, saw them and told Nasiima’s husband, Adamu Mukungu, who killed her for going to a Christian church during Ramadan. (Morning Star News, April 7)
Doreen Nairuba and her husband, Jackson Wampula, shared Christ with an 18-year-old Muslim, Marriam Kapisa. A neighbor saw the three leaving church and told Marriam’s mother, Hanifa Hamiyat. During Ramadan, followers of Islam often share food with other families, so Hanifa prepared a meal for Doreen and Jackson and told her daughter to take it to them. Marriam stayed to eat with the family, not knowing her mother had poisoned the food. All three died. Doreen was six months pregnant.
“I never intended to kill my daughter, but my plan was to kill the neighbors because of taking my daughter to church during this holy month of Ramadan,” said Hanifa (in police custody). “Our imam had assured us that when you kill a kafir [infidel], Allah rewards one with a Jannah [paradise] called Firdausi, so I wanted to get that Jannah.”

In Iganga town, a crowd of Islamic extremists attacked two Christians, Ephraim Idube and Tefiiro Mwanani, as they shared the gospel on March 14. Muslim Bruhan Isabirye cut them with a panga (long Somali sword), but Christians and others came to their rescue. Although they lost a lot of blood, Ephraim and Tefiiro survived, praise God.
Islamic extremists attacked two evangelists after they led several Muslims to faith on April 3, just a few days after Ramadan, at an outdoor event in Nabumali. Fred Wepuhulu was able to escape, but David Washume died from knife wounds. (MSN, May 4)
“Uganda’s constitution and other laws provide for religious freedom, including the right to propagate one’s faith and convert from one faith to another.” Nearly 85 percent of Uganda is considered Christian. Only 12% follows Islam.
Pray for a Great Awakening to Christ’s love all throughout Uganda, but especially in eastern regions with high concentrations of Muslims.
