As the National Day of Prayer approaches now through May 1, is the Lord calling you to fast as you pray? Check out our So You Think You Can’t Fast page.
Ideas to Make This National Day of Prayer All the More Meaningful:
- Pray for our leaders to turn to Christ and lead our nation in His ways.
- Have a family worship service to intercede for the US.
- Spread a map of the USA out on the floor and lay hands on each state as you pray.
- Prayerwalk (or drive-by pray) your neighborhood or other areas where there are internationals, businesses, government seats, homeless, churches, elderly, sick, or any other place God lays on your heart.
- Make a poster and write out the prayers and verses God lays on your heart for the US, and then keep that poster somewhere where you and your family can continue to pray daily.
- Write in your journal prayers and verses God lays on your heart, and keep it by your Bible, so you will continue to pray daily for God’s purposes to prevail in the USA.
There is power in praying Scripture, because we are speaking back to the Lord what He has already said. We are in alignment with His heart.
In John 17, Jesus prayed for us to be one with Him and each other. He also prayed for those who had yet to believe in Him. So, as we pray, let’s remember the persecuted church, Christians we know and those who are lost and in need of salvation.
Today’s prayer is from Isaiah 51:1-11:
Lord, please empower us to listen to You, pursue righteousness and seek You in all that we do. Remind us of what You created us for (Matthew 22:37-40) and the calling You have placed on our lives, for we have been greatly distracted by the worries of this world. Comfort us in our distress, O God. Look upon us with compassion. So much of our nation and our own lives is now in ruins. Transform the desert wastelands of our hearts into rich gardens where You reside intimately with us. Fill us with gladness, thanksgiving and singing in the joy of Your manifest presence. Help us listen to You and truly hear what You’re saying. Send out Your law, O God, to overtake wrong and make it right. May Your justice be a light to the nations. Overcome us with Your righteousness. Set salvation into motion. Bring forth justice. We look to You now, O God, and wait in hope, knowing Your arm will save us. For all these earthly troubles will pass away, but Your salvation lasts forever and Your righteousness never fails. Place Your law deep in our hearts and in the hearts of our leaders so we will discern what is right and do it. Give us courage not to fear the reproach of men or be terrified by their insults. For they will pass away, but Your righteousness lasts forever, Your salvation through all generations. Awake, awake! Clothe Yourself with strength, O arm of the Lord. Awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old, when You performed signs, wonders and miracles to save us. Draw us near to You once again, O God, and set us free. Let us return to You and enter Your presence with singing, as You crown us with joy that never fades away. May all our sorrow and sighing flee away, as You overtake us with the gladness and joy of Your salvation. In the name of Your Son who died to set us free, Amen.
