30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening

This weekend around the world:

• More than 1,600 people are now confirmed dead in Myanmar and Thailand after Friday’s earthquake in Mandalay. And yet, war-torn Myanmar’s military junta continues its air strikes.
• Hundreds of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets in Turkey in an outcry for rights and justice after the arrest and imprisonment of the President’s main rival in May’s upcoming elections.
• Russia has amassed troops along the 1,000-kilometer front line with Ukraine, as if preparing for a new offensive. Bolstered by troops from North Korea, Russia has retaken most of the Kursk region Ukraine had gained.
• The crescent moon has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, signaling March 30 as Eid Al Fitr, the end of Muslim Ramadan (March 1-30).

Verses for contemplation: John 3:16-21

The lostness of this world in turmoil is staggering. More than 174,200 people die daily without the hope of Christ. That’s over 1.2 million people in the coming week and over 5.2 million people in the coming month. Not only that, but the news constantly blares headlines of such wars, earthquakes and evil as declared in biblical warnings of the last days before Jesus’ return.

And yet, the greater the darkness, the more starkly Light shines. We must rise up as the people of God to live like Heaven matters in these last days. To lay down our anger and pride and choose love and humility instead. To choose forgiveness in the face of persecution. To pray for those in need and give abundantly to share Christ’s love. To take the Good News to the nations, and pray for Christ’s kingdom to come to every heart.

As we pray for the world today, let’s remember that awakening first must happen in our own hearts:

Day 1: My Own Heart

Prayer points to consider:

• Over 8 billion people worldwide
• Wars, violence, abuse, corruption
• Lostness, false gods, atheism
• Oppressive governments
• Widespread persecution of Christians
• Religious extremism, terrorism
• Unreached peoples
• So much need for Jesus!

Prayer starter:

Lord, please have mercy on this lost and dying world. Awaken the nations to Your love. Awaken every heart to see You as You truly are and choose You as Savior. Tear down every wall that has kept the lost from believing in You. Get Your Word translated into every language and available to every person. Raise up loving Christians who will take Your Good News into every people group, shining Your light into every last place of darkness. Pursue those who have run from You. Let them see Your great love coming for them and at last embrace salvation. Father, so many children are growing up without love and with no chance to know who Jesus is. Meet them in those isolated places. Visit them in their dreams. Connect them with Christians on the internet. Get the Word to them in a form they can easily understand. Don’t let even one more person die without hearing the Good News. Expand Your church by the billions, Lord. Take over enemy territory and flood it with Your angel armies bringing hope, peace and abundant life for those who choose to follow Christ.

Parallel Prayer: Today is Eid Al Fitr, the end of Muslim Ramadan. Followers of Islam throughout the world have been fasting and seeking God for a month now. Let’s pray they find Him!

Lord, make a way where there seems to be no way for the last unreached Muslim people groups to hear the Good News in a way they can easily understand and be saved. Open their eyes to see You as You truly are. Give them a hunger for Jesus so strong they will seek You and find You. Soften every hardened, abusive heart and surrender it to Love. Open every mosque to preach the Good News of Christ. Visit every persecutor in such powerful ways they will turn from opposition to You and terrorizing Your children to submission to You and repentance. Bring imams and whole communities to salvation through Your lovingkindness and mercy. For only You can satisfy the deepest longings of every Muslim heart. You are the answer they have been looking for these almost 1500 years. May this be the year every Muslim heart awakens to You.

Dinner and a Prayer: Each day during these 30 days, we have shared with you ideas for special family prayer times, including a suggested menu to go with that day’s prayer theme. Today’s suggestions:

Today is Eid al-Fitr, a great opportunity to reach out to your Muslim neighbors with the customary greeting of “Eid Mubarak!” (“Blessed festival”) and candy or homemade treats as a gift. Ask the Lord if He wants you to invite your Muslim neighbors into your home to share a meal with your family. If they are immigrants in your country, it’s possible they have never been invited into a home like yours. Ask them what foods from your country they would like to taste, and cook something special to bless them. As you eat together, ask them questions about their culture and Ramadan, and share with them your own family’s faith and especially your testimony, as the Lord leads.

For your own family’s celebration at the end of these 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening, consider cooking your family’s favorite international recipes, and talk about what you have learned about the world, the lost’s need for Christ, unreached peoples and anything else He has been showing you during this month of prayer. Spend some time in prayer for missionaries, for the church, for the lost and anyone else the Lord lays on your heart.
