30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening
Before we head into our prayers for Southern Africa, let’s pause a moment to lift up those suffering from this weekend’s storms in the U.S., which caused at least 34 deaths due to high winds, fires and more than 40 tornadoes in eight states. Lord, please heal those who are wounded, rescue those in need of help, comfort those who mourn and provide for those in need. Please do it in a way they will know it is You. When the lost cry out to You, answer them, Lord, and save them.
Verses for contemplation: Ephesians 5
In 1840, the London Missionary Society sent David Livingstone to South Africa, where he became one of the first Europeans to traverse the continent. Other missionaries also brought the Gospel to the mostly animistic peoples of this area, and today, all of the countries in this region are considered majority Christian.

Prayer points to consider:
- Drought (Namibia)
- High crime rate, corruption
- Gender crimes and inequality
- Poverty, unemployment
- Low life expectancy
- Unreached peoples
- Nominalism (claiming to be Christians but not living as true followers of Christ)
Prayer starter:
Lord, we thank You that Your Gospel has made its way into most of Southern Africa. Please, now, reach the last unreached peoples in this region. Call out Christians who will share Your Good News with a clear demonstration of Your power and love. Give every person such a hunger for You they will lay aside everything that distracts, and seek You with all their hearts. We ask You for a great awakening, both in the church and among the lost. Quicken the hearts of the people to beat with passion at the sound of Your name. Raise up a chosen generation that will bear Your name and press out beyond borders into the regions of Africa that are resistent to You, shining Your light so brightly the darkness will have to flee. May Your Word run like wildfire and spread out to the nations, bringing millions to You and planting thousands of new churches. Bring forth a great revival in Southern Africa, Lord. Anoint every pastor and believer to preach Your truth in Your Spirit’s power. Raise up young people on fire for You who will love others like Christ loves the Church. Arrange strong, vibrant Christian marriages raising families that love You with all their hearts. Topple the influence of every evildoer, and get up in their face to show them who You are. Bring Christians into their path, and make Your invitation to salvation clear. Whenever abusers, thieves, murderers or other criminals step out to do the enemy’s dirty work, block them, Lord. Don’t let their plans succeed. Crush evil and bring forth good. Protect the innocent and lead their abusers to repentance. Perform miracles and wonders on behalf of victims to rescue and save them.
Parallel Prayer: Our 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening coincides with Ramadan. March 1-30, Muslims throughout the world are fasting and seeking God right now. Let’s pray they find Him!
Lord, as Muslims in Southern Africa gather together as families each evening to feast together after a day of fasting, open up conversations about You. Strike them with such a curiosity to know about Christ they will ask questions, seek Truth with all their hearts and find You. Bring whole families to faith, and transform their lives so dramatically other Muslims will see and be drawn to You as well.
Dinner and a Prayer: Each day during these 30 days, we will share with you ideas for special family prayer times, including a suggested menu to go with that day’s prayer theme. Today’s suggestions:
Search the internet to choose recipes from Botswana, South Africa, Lesotho, Eswatini, Namibia, Zambia and/or Zimbabwe. You can also have your children research some of these countries to find the barriers to the Gospel, and then talk together about those over dinner. Menu suggestions: bobotie (South African ground beef curry), Zambian beans (with tomatoes, onions, and green bell pepper), Namibian spinach stew, sweet potato cookies with lemon glaze (Zimbabwe)
You can also go to Joshua Project to discover unreached peoples, and Open Doors and Voice of the Martyrs to see where and how Christians are persecuted.
If you would like to plan ahead for international meals, see the “Dinner and a Prayer” section at the bottom of our 30 Days page or in the back of your 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening, Volume 2, book.
