A Muslim woman living in the compound where the founder of al-Qaeda, Osama Bin Ladin, once lived prayed for her own copy of the Muslim Quran.
God answered with a Bible instead.
Two years ago, Christians with Mission Cry (formerly Christian Resources International) passed out some 2,000 Bibles in what was once an Islamic terrorist stronghold in Pakistan. Within a year, 100 people chose to follow Jesus, followed by 200 last year.
“There’s a joy where there was never a joy. There’s a peace where there was no peace…. That’s what the Lord does,” said an MC missionary. Where “the people have been oppressed or possessed by false religion, demons, … now you have people who are Spirit-filled, living their life for the Lord. It changes everything.”
But the threat of persecution remains. Last year, Muslims attacked an MC missionary, breaking several bones in an attempt to stop him from sharing the gospel. He has since healed, and has resumed sharing Christ’s love with the lost. (Mission Network News, January 28)
Pakistan ranks eighth on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for Christians. About 75% of its 2.5 million Christians live in Punjab state, where they are heavily persecuted for their faith. With 828 unreached people groups comprising 99% of the population, most Pakistanis have never heard the good news about Christ.
Lord, be a Shield of protection around every missionary and believer in Christ in Pakistan. Thank You for these 300 who have received Your free gift of salvation. Grow them strong in their faith, deep in love, wise in the knowledge of Your Word, and bold in their witness. Surround them with Your angels and shield them from evil attacks. Transform each one by the renewing of their minds (Romans 12:1-2), so others will see the difference in their lives in such profound ways they, too, will choose Christ. Awaken every heart in Pakistan to Christ. Meet them in their dreams. Lift the veil from their eyes so they will see You as You truly are. Bring terrorists to their knees in fear of the Lord with repentant hearts ready to believe in You. For every Christian who has been persecuted, bring to faith 1,000 Muslims. For every Christian home or church burned by extremists, plant 1,000 more churches. Yes, Lord, awaken Pakistan to Your love. Don’t let even one more lost soul die without hearing the good news that You loved them so much You sent Your Son to die in their place so they can have eternal life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
