A Day in the Life and Death of the World

This happened Tuesday:

USA: At least 10 people died in winter storms that swept through Gulf Coast states and then northeast into the Carolinas, dumping unusual amounts of ice and snow (including nine inches in parts of Louisiana).

ISRAEL: A MOROCCO terrorist stabbed four people in Tel Aviv before he was shot and killed. Three days before, a man was seriously injured in another stabbing attack in Tel Aviv; an armed civilian shot and killed the terrorist.

GAZA: 900 aid trucks made it into needy areas on the third day of ceasefire, well above the 600 per day agreed upon in the ceasefire

WEST BANK: During a counterterrorism operation in Jenin, the IDF killed 10 and wounded more than 40.

TURKEY: A hotel fire at a popular ski resort in the Korologlu mountains 185 miles from Istanbul killed at least 76, including 20 children, and injured another 51.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: RWANDA-backed M23 rebels captured the town of Minova, just two weeks after capturing Masisi. Other towns reportedly in the hands of M23 include Lumbishi, Numbi, Shanje and Bweremana. Rebels have clashed with the Congolese army several months in this mineral-rich eastern region, forcing over 200,000 people from their homes.

TAIWAN: A 6.4 magnitude earthquake injured 27.

INDONESIA: Heavy rain halted rescue operations after Monday’s floods and landslides killed at least 19 in nine villages in Central Java, injured another 13 or more, and forced 300 people to flee their homes.

Loving Father, we ask for Your mercy, please. Protect and rescue those in danger, heal those who are injured, comfort those who mourn, provide for those in need, and rebuild the lives and homes of those who have lost so much. Do all these things in such a way that they will know You are the One who did that. When they cry out to You, answer them. Perform signs and wonders, miraculous healings, rescues and provision. Protect the children, heal hurting hearts and provide safe shelter, electricity, food and water for those without. Place within every soul a deep thirst for You. Remove every barrier that has kept them from salvation and give them courage to seek You and find You. Bring loving Christians to the lost to share Your Good News. For Christians who are homeless now or who have lost loved ones, please carry them through this difficult time like only You can. Renew their strength and empower them to encourage others around them who are also hurting, offering them hope, a safe shoulder to cry on, and the way to salvation. Bless Christians so abundantly they will also abundantly bless others in need, showing how real Your love is. Bring forth a mighty movement of Your Spirit all across each of these countries and beyond, leading thousands to faith in You. Open the eyes of the spiritually blind to see You as You truly are, and awaken every heart to Your truth and grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
