ISRAEL-GAZA: Early Sunday morning, before the ceasefire went into effect, Israeli security forces recovered the body of Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul, held captive by Hamas since 2014. Lord, thank You that Oron’s family can at last have closure. Please give them a longing for their Messiah who is the Resurrection and the Life, bring Your good news to them and save them. John 11:25.
COLOMBIA: Failed peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN) resulted in the deaths of at least 80 people over the weekend in the region of Catatumbo, near the border of Venezuela. About 20 people were wounded, three involved in the peace talks were kidnapped, and thousands fled into the jungles or to government shelters to escape the violence between the ELN and former guerrilla militants of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). Both groups seek control of the border region, which hosts several coca leaf plantations. Lord, please rescue those in danger, heal the wounded, comfort those who mourn, and provide for those in need. Guard over homes, possessions and animals left unattended. Bring peace in this area, Lord, but most of all salvation to every person affected by the conflict. Awaken a deep need for Christ in every heart. Strike fear in the hearts of militants bent on evil, and show Yourself strong on behalf of the innocent. Make clear the good news that brings LIFE and move every heart to choose You as Savior.
SOUTH AFRICA: In a months-long siege begun in August, police cut off food and water from hundreds of illegal miners trapped inside a mine in an effort to force them to surface so they could be arrested. Last week, rescuers pulled out 87 dead and 246 survivors, most from MOZAMBIQUE, ZIMBABWE and LESOTHO. Lord, please comfort those who mourn. Thank You that so many who were trapped have finally been rescued. Whatever they now face, plant within them, as well as the families, police and rescuers involved in this crisis, a hunger and thirst for You that leads them each to salvation.
UKRAINE-RUSSIA: Ukraine claims some 11,000 troops from NORTH KOREA have joined Russian forces in Kursk, where at least 3,000 casualties have occurred since mid-November. Father God, please make the way for a speedy and right end to this war. Most North Koreans have never heard Your good news. Please make the way for these who have been deployed to escape, defect and at last know the hope and joy only found in Christ. Burn within them and every Russian and Ukrainian soldier a hunger for Truth that leads them each to You.
USA: At least 26 are missing and 27 have died in L.A. county fires. As of Sunday, the Palisades Fire is 56% contained and the Eaton Fire 81%, after burning nearly 38,000 acres and close to 15,000 residential, commercial and other structures. About 41,000 people remain under evacuation orders. Thank You, Lord, for some hope. Please guide and protect firefighters, and quickly end all fires. Comfort those who mourn businesses, homes and the loss of loved ones. Gather up into Your arms the more than 100,000 displaced, and carry them to safe places, providing for all their needs in a way they will know You did that. Place within every heart affected by the fires a deep, deep thirst for You. Cause those who have run from You to now turn to You and be saved. Bring forth a church planting movement in California and beyond that spreads like wildfire with tens of thousands turning to faith. Do the same in the hearts of those throughout the 75% of the country facing extreme cold now.
