Fires Rage in Los Angeles

At least five people have died and more than 2,000 homes/buildings have been destroyed due to raging wildfires in Los Angeles County, California. About 100,000 people have been ordered to evacuate and some 17 million are in danger of smoke and dust inhalation. As of yesterday afternoon, the fires were 0% contained and had burned more than 22,000 acres, leaving half a million people without power. With strong winds, the fires are predicted to spread all the more through Friday.

Lord, please protect all those in the path of these fires, and give them wisdom as they evacuation decisions. Give firefighters courage, wisdom, strength, and Your covering and protection as they battle the blazes. Meet them in the midst of the fire, show them the way to go and how to stop the spread, and please, Lord, calm the winds and bring rain. Shield people, homes, businesses, livestock, properties, forests, and wildlife. Provide the way of escape for those who are trapped. Whenever someone cries out to You, hear them and answer. Meet them in such powerful ways they will know You are the One who did that. So many are losing homes, businesses and loved ones. Please meet them in their sorrow and desperation, comfort them like only You can, and show them You are the God they are looking for. Provide for all their needs, and do it in a way that they know it was You, so they will place their faith in the only One who can truly help and heal them now. Be our Shield, our Comforter, our Home, not just in these physical fires but in the fiery trials we now face. For we have wandered far from You, and now it seems as if the things we trusted in are going up in flames. We need You, Lord. Here in the midst of the fire, let us see You with us, holding out Your arms full of grace, ready to save. Set us free from all that has consumed us that is not You. Change our minds, transform our hearts, and revive us, O Lord. Consume us with desire for You alone. For only when we are held in Your everlasting arms will we truly be safe. In Your name. Amen.
