A teacher and two teenaged students died Monday at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, when one of the teens, 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, opened fire during a study hall and then killed herself. Six other students were injured, two in critical condition.
Lord, please comfort those who mourn and heal the wounded, especially those seriously wounded. Restore their bodies, save their lives, and draw them close to You. Thank You for this second grader who called for police. Heal the trauma of all the students and teachers affected by this tragedy. Cast out every fear with Your perfect love. As they wake in the night, meet them and calm them with Your peace. Use Christian families in the midst of this terrible tragedy to be a light to the lost. Give them courage to forgive. For those who have not yet chosen You as Savior, remind them how short life is and how desperately they need You. Tear down every wall and help them believe. Please also surround Samantha’s parents and family with Your love and grace. Speak to them gently and carry them through the shock, pain and grief. Let them feel Your arms holding them and Your voice comforting them. If they don’t yet know You, save them, Lord, please. And if they do know You, please guide their thoughts and give them wisdom as they deal with the press and with hurting families. Bring from out of this terrible tragedy something good. For Your glory, Lord. Amen.
This marks the 83rd school shooting so far this year, up from 2023’s count of 80.
We ask You, please, Father God, to comfort families all across the country who are mourning this Christmas because their loved ones will not be with them. Our nation is in such need of You. Please come and rescue us from the hands of the enemy. Be our Shield, our Fortress, our Healer, our Counselor and our Salvation. Set us free from the things that twist our minds and push us in directions that take us farther away from You and what we were created for. Overcome every enemy lie with Your truth. For those who have grown up in abusive homes or have experienced other trauma, for those who suffer from unforgiveness, mental illness, murderous thoughts or demonic oppression, please, God, come and meet them like only You can. Bring loving Christians to them who will help them to salvation and freedom through Christ. Rebuild their minds and heal them. We thank You for the police and others who intervened in these crises throughout the country this year, saving lives and helping people to safety. Please give officers, security guards and others wisdom and courage in every situation to know how to respond. Be a Shield around them protecting them from harm. Guard their marriages, heal their minds and hearts, draw them to Yourself and save them. Be a shield of protection around our schools. Rescue our children and their teachers from evil and block every enemy plot against them. Raise up Christian teachers and students who will love our children and point them away from ungodly trends, and into Your arms instead. Watch over our nation’s children as they play. Keep their minds and eyes and hearts and bodies pure. Give them a hunger for You, Lord, that drives them to read the Bible; and each time they do, meet them in powerful ways. Save them, Jesus. Give them courage to believe what You say is truth, and to let You conquer every lie the enemy is trying to build in their hearts. Speak to them constantly, telling them how much You love them. Lead them in Your right paths, and fulfill in them every good purpose You created them for. Prepare for them even now the godly husband or wife they will marry. Watch over that child’s heart and mind and body, as well. Lead their families into strong, Bible-believing churches filled with love and with Your Spirit’s empowering to overcome every trial. Give our children courage to stand strong against the waves of culture and politics that want to sway them off-course. Raise them up to be mighty warriors for Christ, a chosen generation, leading out in love, peace, joy, truth and hope, drawing millions to You by Your light shining brightly through them in the darkness. And raise up those who will be leaders in all areas of life, opening doors for many to know Christ. Yes, Lord, please wrap our children in Your arms and never let them go. No matter how far they stray from You, bring them back home. Don’t let even one of them be lost. But rather, use our children to bring all the more lost sheep into Your fold. In Your name. Amen.
