Loving the Hard-to-Love

Did you face conflicts over the last few days? Today’s prayer is from Romans 12:9-21:

Lord, make our love sincere. Teach us to hate what is evil; and cling to what is good. Make us devoted to one another in love, honoring others above ourselves. Don’t let us lack in zeal, but fuel our spiritual fervor serving You. Make us joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Show us those who are in need, and how to share with them, especially in their hard times. Teach us how to practice hospitality, and to bless the church. Empower us to bless those who persecute us; to bless and not curse. To rejoice with those who rejoice; and mourn with those who mourn. To live in harmony with one another. Discipline us when we are proud, and make us willing to associate with people of low position. Don’t let us be conceited. Remind us not to repay anyone evil for evil. Help us be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. Help us live at peace with everyone, at least as far as it depends on us, even if others are not willing. Remind us not to take revenge, but to leave room for Your wrath, for You have written: “‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.” Contrary to the world’s way, You have told us: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Help us walk out in obedience to You, O God of Love. Don’t let us be overcome by evil, but use us in mighty ways to overcome evil with good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
