More than War: Ceasefire in Lebanon and Other Headlines

Praise God, Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire yesterday. Israel must withdraw all its forces from southern Lebanon within 60 days, and Hezbollah fighters must retreat 40 km (25 miles) from the border with Israel.

Thank You, Lord, for this ceasefire and for the lives that will be saved because of it. We ask You now to truly save every heart for all eternity. Bring forth a great awakening to Truth and to Your love all throughout Lebanon and beyond. Use what the enemy meant for evil to bring forth great good. Meet both civilians and terrorists in their dreams, showing them Your love and the way You have provided for their salvation. End this war, Lord, by ending Hezbollah’s service to the evil one. Awaken their hearts of stone, and replace them with passionate love for the one and only Savior. Turn them from their hatred and lust for violence. Give them such powerful encounters with You they will fall to their knees and surrender to Truth. Raise Lebanon up strong now, with those who love You in places of government leadership once held by terrorists. After so decades of devastation and poverty, bring forth in Lebanon a new era of openness to the gospel.

ISRAEL-LEBANON: Israel hit 25 Hezbollah Executive Council targets Monday and destroyed dozens of command centers and control posts, amid talks of a ceasefire. Since September, more than 3,500 people have died in Lebanon, including top Hezbollah commanders and other terrorists, but also many civilians.

RUSSIA-UKRAINE: Russian forces have advanced against Ukraine at the fastest rate since the beginning of the war, capturing 235 sq km (91 sq miles) over the past week and 600 this month. Some 50,000 troops from Russia and NORTH KOREA are expected to descend upon 20,000 Ukrainians holding Kursk, Russia, soon.

PAKISTAN: Conflicting Shiite and Sunni Muslim tribes in the northwest have agreed to a ceasefire after an ambush on a convoy last Thursday killed 42 Shiites. In addition, recent protests by supporters of Pakistan’s imprisoned former prime minister have led to a security lockdown in the country, especially the capital.

HAITI: Between November 11 and 19, 220 people died in gang wars, bringing this year’s total deaths past 4,500. In the last two weeks alone, some 41,000 people fled their homes, bringing the total number of internally displaced to over 700,000.

EGYPT: Rescuers saved 28 people, but at least 17 are still missing in the Red Sea, after a tourist yacht sank in rough waters Monday.

Lord, in each of these instances above, many are grieving and others are in need of rescue, healing, shelter and provisions. So many deaths and dangers remind us of humanity’s desperate need for You. Please meet those who are afraid or hurting, touching them and speaking to their hearts in such personal ways they will know You are the One they’ve been looking for. When they cry out to You, answer them, O Lord, and show them the way to salvation. Give them a hunger for You and then satisfy them with Your felt presence. Put Bibles in their hands. Make a way for them to hear and understand the gospel message. Bring Christian counselors, medical workers and other aid workers to those in need. Guide seekers to local Christians who will love them into Your arms. Be a Shield of protection around the innocent and especially around Your people. Keep them from harm and bless them so abundantly they will also abundantly share with those in need around them. Stop the violence. Bring to justice those who torture and kill. Replace hatred with a desire for Love so strong Muslims, Communists, gangs and other terrorists and oppressors will lay down their weapons, repent and seek Your salvation. Set the captives free, Lord. Awaken the nations to Your love and mercy. Awaken every mind and heart to Truth like only You can. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
