Israel’s war with Hamas has pushed Gaza to the edge of famine. Recent sieges have made it difficult, if not impossible, for international aid to reach the hungry masses. To make things worse, last weekend, armed men looted 98 trucks of food and other humanitarian aid, causing all the more shortages and sending food prices soaring. Flour is now said to cost about $100 a bag in central Gaza, if it can be found at all.
And yet, God is making a way. Through Gaza Baptist Church, Christian Mission to Gaza recently provided cash to help 278 families sheltering in the Christian churches in Gaza City and surrounding areas so they can buy necessities. In addition, they fed over 4,000 people throughout the Strip, including Jabalia, which has been under siege for weeks.
“The church has broken through,” said Palestinians in Jabalia. “How are you able to come here with food when others cannot?”
Christians handing out these provisions reported:
“An elderly woman approached me and asked if the rice was for the camp. I replied, ‘Yes.’ She asked, ‘For the whole camp?’ Again, I said, ‘Yes.’ Then she asked, ‘Who is providing it?’ I told her, ‘The Baptist Church.’ She responded, ‘May God bless them, provide for them, and grant success in all their work.’
She continued, ‘I am a resident of Beit Hanoun. I left behind 20 dunams of land where we plant strawberries every year. Two of my buildings were destroyed in the bombings. My children were murdered, and my husband had a stroke. I am now caring for him, and the situation is truly tragic and extremely difficult.’
She added, ‘Glory be to the Changer of conditions, and praise be to God for everything.’ She then expressed her gratitude once more to the church.”
“A child asked me if the rice was good. I replied, ‘Yes, it is good.’ He then said, ‘By God, uncle, it’s been a month that we’ve been eating only canned food. Our stomachs are ruined from it.'”
“Every time we distribute, the people pray blessings over us. So many children asked when we would return, their innocent eyes filled with hope. They asked if, next time, we could bring meat and rice, and I promised, with God’s help, that we would.”
Today’s prayer comes from the heart of Hanna Massad, former pastor of Gaza Baptist Church and founder of CM2G: “We ask you to join us in prayer for our friends and neighbors in Gaza, particularly those who have been forced from their homes in the north, facing severe threats and danger. Please pray that CMG will be able to continue providing hot meals across the Gaza Strip — from the south to the middle and the north — sustaining hope and meeting basic needs in these trying times. Above all, we pray for an end to this nightmare, for the Lord to raise up peacemakers in Gaza, Israel, and Lebanon, and for encouragement and strength rooted in His promises, even in the face of profound pain and suffering that has long weighed upon our hearts. Thank you for standing with us in prayer and faith.”
