As we step into this season of Thanksgiving, what has God done this year in your life and family? What are you thankful for?
With my children and those the Lord has asked me to mentor, we love to seek the Lord at the beginning of each year and ask Him for His word over that year. Then we walk together with the Lord through the year, watching Him do that and doing it with Him.
I love to journal those things He’s showing us, so I can look back and remember His faithfulness, much like the Israelites did with their stone markers in places where the Lord spoke to them so powerfully and then fulfilled His promises.
Today, I found an entry from another year and reflected once again on the beautiful things God did at that time. We were serving Him in a dark area of the world, where few have heard of Christ and Christians face much persecution.
Last year, my word was “new,” as we moved into a new apartment in a new setting for a new season, where He wrote several new books, and new people heard about Jesus for the first time, and our children also went through many new things, … but I’ve also noticed a new attitude in my heart that is so sweetly more like Him.
That “new attitude” was necessary for the difficulties ahead. Just two years later, the police gained intel that implicated us as missionaries in that land where sharing Christ is prohibited. We snuck out of that “new apartment” in the night, as a band of faithful prayer warriors prayed us safely across borders.
Now, unless things change politically in that dark nation, we can’t return. But I’m so thankful for all the ways He has deepened my faith. The same year we fled, He led me to start this Prayer Wall.
This year, as we are in the “free” country where He safely brought us, He spoke over 2024: “Rest. Stay on track and LOVE.” We are so grateful to Him for a quiet, safe place to rest in Him, and for a new ministry He opened for us to migrants from dangerous countries. Because of the many years He gave us overseas in such countries, we can now share His love with them in their own languages.
What about you? What are you thankful for this year? What has He done in your life and in your family? Take some time with Him to make a list of those things now, before the busyness of the holidays takes over. Be prepared to talk about His love and grace as you sit around the table with those you love. And begin asking Him even now what He wants to say over the coming year.
The “new books” God asked me to write in that year of “new” (above) were Delight to Be a Woman of Wonder and Dare to Be a Mighty Warrior, along with the Prayer Journals and Power Planners that go with them, which have now helped many believers all over the world to freedom from anxiety and other strongholds.
