In many countries, it is a crime to be a Christian or to speak about Jesus to those of other religions. In some places, even holding a Bible or asking questions about Christianity on the internet can result in beatings, arrests and even death.
As we prepare for next Sunday’s International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, let’s pray Isaiah 51:5 for righteousness, justice, salvation and hope to come swiftly to those who suffer throughout the world under oppressive regimes, where billions of people have yet to hear the good news about Christ.
Lord, may Your righteousness draw near speedily, and Your salvation be on the way to those facing terrible oppression right now. By Your mighty right arm, bring forth justice to the nations. Be the downfall of those who rule through terror. Get up in the face of persecutors and show them Your power, righteousness and glory. Protect every Christian and seeker, and provide for all their needs. Strengthen their faith and empower them to boldly do and say what You call them to, even in the face of death. March in Your angel armies to rescue those in danger in such a way that terrorists are brought to their knees in terror of You. Rise up on behalf of the downtrodden, stay the hand of their oppressors, crush every evil plan, and rescue the needy, O God, in such miraculous ways all will see and know You are the One they’ve been waiting for, that You alone are God. Lord, billions of people still do not know Your plan of salvation. Make the way for every person of every tribe and nation to hear Your Good News and easily understand. Give them such a hunger for Truth and Love they quickly place their hope in You and steadfastly follow You all the days of their lives. Yes, Father, crush lies with Your truth, chase out the darkness with Your light, and awaken the nations to You.
