Prayers for Our Nation’s Voters

A recent survey from Arizona State University projects perhaps 104 million citizens of faith may not vote in the upcoming election, mainly because of disinterest. This includes 41 million “born-again” Christians, 32 million Christians regularly attending church, and 14 million evangelicals. (ASU Cultural Research Center, October 8)

“In 2020, the gap between Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden was just seven million votes. The real story lies in the margins of victory in swing states, where an average of 60,000 votes per state determined nearly 40% of the electoral votes needed to win,” said Dr. George Barna, who led the CRC study. “In this context, the 32 million regular churchgoers who won’t vote in 2024 is a gamechanger.”

Of the Christians unlikely to vote,

• 68% lack interest in politics and elections.
• 57% dislike all major candidates.
• 55% feel none of the candidates reflect their most important views.
• 52% believe their vote will not make a difference.
• 48% think the election results will be manipulated.

But the data also showed that “Pastors wield tremendous influence in motivating their congregations. Even the simplest action—encouraging their members to vote—could mobilize five million more voters,” Barna explained.

“Teaching people to live a culturally engaged life based on biblical principles is not about replacing a spiritual mandate with political emphasis,” he continued. “It’s about equipping believers to influence their culture in a way that honors God. That includes voting for the next president, as well as determining who will hold many other federal, state, and local offices.”

Let’s pray pastors, Christians and all citizens will be used by God to bring forth the leaders of His choice for our nation:

Lord, as churches gather together Sunday to worship You, please lead pastors, Bible study teachers, and other Christian leaders and believers to influence those previously disinclined to vote to instead ask You what You want them to do, and then to follow Your lead. We ask for Your covering over all ballots and locations where they are received and counted. Block any fraud, or cause such fraud to run awry, turning enemy purposes around to serve Yours. Bring forth the results You desire, Lord. Expose every lie and trample it with truth. Dishearten those who have been faithful to causes that are not Yours, so they will vote for what is right and good, what brings about life and freedom and hope and peace, rather than corruption, oppression, persecution, abuse and death. Raise into place governors, senators, representatives and a President who will bless, not oppress. Who will follow Heaven’s plans, not Satan’s. Who will protect citizens, not put them in harm’s way. Who will make wise choices, led by You, not by their own selfish gain or fear of man. May every candidate bow not to political agendas or to fear, but to You alone. Pursue them with Your love. Speak to them constantly. Meet them in their dreams. Block their attempts at corruption or evil. Convict them of sin, slander, lies and evil agendas. Break the chains that bind them to Satan’s purposes, and set them free to follow Yours. Place Christians around them who will speak wisdom, advising them from Your heart, and give those Christians favor. Make the way clear for every candidate to see You as You truly are, experience Your invitation to salvation, and surrender to You as King, following You in all things. Move every voter’s heart in Your direction, even shifting their thoughts last-minute to vote for the people of Your choice. Where they are unsure, move their fingers, thoughts and decisions. Let this country rise up with choices that show the difference Christ can make in a nation that is nearly 77% Christian, and shine Your light to countries overrun by corruption, tyranny, religious extremists, terrorism and other oppression. Show the world You are their Light. Give them a hunger to seek Truth with all their heart and find You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
