The Headlines Are Flooded

As Florida braces for Hurricane Milton, expected to make landfall tomorrow, let’s pray for the thousands who have lost much after flooding across the world the past few days:

THAILAND: Floods have spread over 23 provinces, including the northern city of Chiangmai. At least three have died, and over 50 since August.

BOSNIA and HERZEGOVINA: At least 21 died and dozens are missing in flash floods Friday in the Jablanica area, southwest of Sarajevo.

NIGERIA: Islamic extremists in Borno displaced thousands through violence over the past 15 years. Now, recent floods have displaced another nearly 2 million. To make things worse, poor sanitation facilities and lack of safe water have resulted in a cholera outbreak.

BANGLADESH: At least six have died and more than 100,000 people are in need of rescue in floods that hit the north on Sunday. In August, floods killed more than 70.

INDIA: At least 15 died in floods and landslides in Meghalaya over the last few days.

USA: The death toll from Hurricane Helene is now over 232 across six states. More than half those deaths happened in North Carolina. Hundreds are still missing and 780,000 homes were without power a week after the storm. Tens of thousands are without water. Hundreds of closed roads block aid from getting into hard-hit communities. Churches have opened to feed and care for those in need. And mules, drones and planes have brought in supplies where every other way in is closed.

Floods throughout the Earth

Father, please protect those in the path of Milton. Get them to safety and provide for all their needs in such a way they know it is You. Comfort those who mourn and care for those in need who live in the areas across the world already hit by terrible storms, landslides and flooding. Carry them through this hard time, and give wisdom to leaders, rescuers, medical workers and others who are aiding in relief. Heal those who are injured or sick. Rescue those who are trapped. When they cry out to You, answer them in mighty ways so they know it is You. Provide shelter, food and clean water for those who have been displaced. Bring Christians quickly to their aid to show them Your love, pray for healing, share the Good News and counsel those in distress. Deepen the faith of Christian flood victims and bless them so abundantly they will share of their provisions with others in need. Awaken the lost to Your salvation, and those who are saved to more and more of Your love flowing through them. Give every person affected by these floods a hunger and thirst for You. Awaken the USA, Thailand, Nigeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bangladesh, Taiwan, India, Nepal, Myanmar and all the world to Your love, O merciful God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
