Truth and Wisdom for Leaders and Influencers

A prayer for our nation today from James 3:13-18:

Lord, so many think themselves wise but are consumed with personal ambition, greed, and slandering and promoting lies. Please tear down every idol, and give those in office and running for office a deep hunger for You, O God. May they seek the only One whose name is both Truth and Wisdom. Awaken them to Your love and grace. Yes, pour out Your love and truth over our President and the candidates who are running for that position, over every member of Congress, the Cabinet and all branches of the government in the nation and in every state. Bring down pride and move those in positions of leadership to help and protect the people of this nation, not oppress and harm them.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

But if you harbor bitter envy (fierce desire to promote your own idea) and selfish ambition (rivalry, party spirit, divisive spirit) in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

James 3:13-18 (NIV)

Please, O God, silence those in our nation who promote demonic “wisdom.” Expose every lie in such loud ways, all will KNOW it’s a lie, and feel embarrassed to believe or promote it. Transform our hearts and point us to Truth. For You alone, O God, are Wisdom. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. So, point us to You. Be our Sovereign One, our Most High, and please place in office those who look to You as the Wisdom who guides them.
