Typhoon, Fires Cause Hundreds of Deaths

SOUTHEAST ASIA: Nearly 300 have died or are missing in VIETNAM, due to winds and flooding from Typhoon Yagi, which killed at least 20 in the PHILIPPINES and four in southern CHINA. Now, at least two have died in THAILAND, and hundreds are stranded. MYANMAR and LAOS have also been affected.

KENYA: At least 21 children around nine years old died on Thursday, when a dorm housing 156 boys at Endarasha Academy went up in flames. At least 17 are still missing.

NIGERIA: At least 48 died when a fuel tanker hit a truck on Sunday causing an explosion.

SUDAN: Anywhere from 31 to 150 people died and many more were injured when Rapid Support Forces fired on a crowded market in Sennar Sunday.

USA: At least 14 wildfires in Nevada and California have forced the evacuation of thousands of homes. California’s Line Fire has eaten up more than 24,000 acres, and was only 5% contained as of Monday night. Nevada’s Davis fire is 0% contained. More than 2 million acres are now burning across the western US. Meanwhile, Louisiana and Mississippi face hurricane Francine today.

Lord, please awaken every heart in each of these countries and situations to Your love. So much danger, death and instability remind us of humanity’s desperate need for You. Please rescue those in danger, comfort those who grieve, and speak to the hearts of those who are afraid or hurting. Touch each heart in such personal ways they will at last realize You are the One they long for. When they cry out to You, answer them, O Lord, in a way they will recognize You. Give the lost a hunger for peace, meaning, acceptance and love; and then satisfy them with Your felt presence. Bring Christians to them to show them Your love, care for their needs and share the good news of Your salvation. Bless Your people abundantly in each of these places so they will also abundantly share with those in need around them. Bring Christian counselors, medical workers and other aid workers to those in need. Lift the veil from the eyes of the lost so they will see You as You truly are and surrender their hearts to You as Savior. In the midst of every trial and tragedy, push back the enemy’s purposes, and bring forth Yours. Convince us of Your truth. Let us feel Your love like never before. And bring forth Your Kingdom in every heart, home, city and nation. Yes, Lord, awaken the whole Earth to Your salvation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
