After yesterday’s beautiful report of God answering our prayers for Haiti, let’s pray all the more boldly for the lost in need of a Savior. Today’s focus is Russia.
- At the beginning of this month, 24 prisoners were released in the largest exchange with the West since the Cold War. After spending 11 months of his two-year imprisonment in solitary confinement in one of Russia’s “harshest prison regimes,” one prisoner now free said life for him there was “endless, meaningless and exactly the same.” (Rachel Looker, BBC, August 14)
Pray these prisoners now released won’t just go back to life as it was, but will hunger and thirst for true meaning in life and find Jesus. Pray the gospel will reach prisoners still held Russia’s prison system, and thousands will open their hearts to receive Him. Pray God will make a way for Christians to share the good news inside prisons and with the families of those held captive. Pray Jesus will meet prisoners in their dreams and show them He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
- As nearly 200,000 Russians now evacuate the Kursk and Belgorod regions during Ukraine’s bold attacks on Russian soil, a 24-hour hotline has opened for Russians seeking humanitarian aid or wanting to evacuate to Ukraine.
Pray for a quick and right end to the war, for wisdom for decision-makers and protection for families. But most of all, pray those lost without Christ, scared in the fight, will hunger for Him and cry out for His help. Pray He will answer them in powerful, even miraculous ways, and thousands of both Russian and Ukrainian hearts will turn to Jesus. Pray God will bring loving Christians to minister to refugees, and those who have not yet heard the good news about Jesus will at last hear and receive Him with open arms.
