Hungry Hearts in Haiti

God is at work through your prayers for Haiti!

Last month, here at the Prayer Wall, we prayed for survivors of a boat explosion to hunger for Jesus and hear the plan of salvation. The vessel carried an estimated 80 migrants headed to Turks and Caicos to escape gang violence that has overrun the tiny Caribbean island. But alcohol and fire used in a voodoo ceremony sparked a fatal explosion.

According to Roseline DeHart of For Haiti with Love, only 30 survived. “The water is still pushing bodies out; it’s a very tragic time.” (MNN, August 13)

The Christian charity runs a 24-hour emergency medical clinic, where many of the survivors sought treatment. Supplies had just arrived before the accident, providing the large amount of bandages needed to treat so many burn victims. “God had everything in place,” said De Hart.

Burns take extended care, with every-other-day visits to the clinic. With each treatment, Christian workers share the gospel. Their patients have told them that after surviving that accident, they’re “ready for Jesus.”

Today’s prayer requests come from the Christians working with FHL. Pray:

  • Burn victims will understand the gospel and turn to Christ for salvation.
  • The Lord will comfort families who lost loved ones in the boat explosion and give them a hunger to know Him.
  • God will heal each burn victim FHL treats, and they will know He is the One who has saved them.
  • God will deepen their hunger for Christ and all will choose to follow Him.
  • New Haitian believers will grow through FHL’s discipleship.
  • For protection and provision for FHL, so they will “always there to be God’s hands and feet in Haiti, ready to help the people whenever necessary.”

Let’s push back the darkness together as one, and pray forth God’s purposes in these trying times. “For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:1 rsv
