Where There Is War

MYANMAR: In their attempt to overthrow the ruthless military that has ruled since a coup in 2021, anti-coup militia have closed in on key areas and now have captured the Northeast Command headquarters in Lashio City. A drone attack Monday on Rohingya fleeing the violence killed dozens, including families with children. An estimated more than 50,000 people have died in the last three and a half years of war.

ISRAEL-GAZA: An Israeli air strike targeting a Hamas command center embedded within a school used for sheltering internally displaced Palestinians in Gaza City killed over 100 people yesterday. After Israel’s assassination last week of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in IRAN and Hezbollah commander Fouad Shukur in LEBANON, tensions are high and retaliatory attacks expected. The US destroyed a Houthi missile in YEMEN amid continued terrorist attacks against ships in the Red Sea. Friday, Israel killed yet another Hamas commander in Sidon, Lebanon. An estimated more than 40,000 people have died so far in the war begun by Hamas on October 7. Yahya Sinwar, planner of that attack on Israel, has now been named Hamas’ new political leader.

UKRAINE-RUSSIA: Hundreds of Ukrainian troops crossed the border into Russia Tuesday, taking several villages in Kursk. As the advance into Russia continues, Ukraine struck an air base 217 miles from the border, destroying weaponry used to attack Ukrainian towns and military posts. Russia responded by striking a shopping center in Kostyantynivka, Ukraine, killing 14 and injuring 43. Some estimate more than half a million casualties since the beginning of the war two years ago.

BANGLADESH: More than 500 people died, most of those shot by police, and thousands were injured over the past month, as students protested against the Prime Minister, who has now resigned and fled the country. Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus currently heads the new military-backed interim government, along with 16 advisers, two of them student protest leaders.

SUDAN: Violence and abuse against innocent civilians, especially women and children who have endured repeated attacks, has increased since fighting began last year. Already more than 16,000 people have died and over 10 million are displaced. Meanwhile, this week around 11,500 homes collapsed in floods that killed 17 and injured 170 in the north.

ETHIOPIA: In the aftermath of the two-year war (2020-2022) between Tigray and government forces, an estimated more than two million people are now at risk of starvation. Between 162,000 and 600,000 people died in the war, where females ages 8-72 endured repeated rapes. Several camps for the internally displaced still shelter tens of thousands.

Father God, please have mercy. So much violence, death and evil, and the majority of these millions affected do not know the One who is Life. Reveal Yourself to every heart that still beats before it is too late. Visit them in their dreams, appear to them in visions, guide those with internet access to Christian sites and bring loving Christians to the aid of those who are lost without Christ. You created us for the purpose of knowing You, experiencing Your great love for us and loving others through Your love in us. But the evil one has overrun so many nations with violence and death and darkness that Your light has been hidden from those in need. Expose Your glory now. Destroy every enemy plan for destruction, and rebuild lives and hearts on You as their foundation. When they cry out to You, hear their cries and answer. And for those who don’t know Your name and cannot cry to You, break down every wall that has blocked them from the good news that brings salvation. Make a way for Your gospel to reach into every unreached people group, every village, every home and every heart in Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sudan, Ukraine, Russia and the Middle East. Bring an end to the violence and bring forth a great awakening in every nation, with tens of thousands of hearts turning to You. Tear down false religion, and show the nations You alone are God. We speak LIFE now over the masses who have only known violence and death. We speak HEALING over those whose minds, hearts and bodies are now devastated. March in with Your armies, O God, and take back what the enemy has taken. Rescue from out of his grip thousands, even millions who hunger for Truth. Show them the way to salvation and save them. Yes, Lord, even Yahya and every member of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis, even Vladimir Putin and his oligarchs, even the brutal forces of Myanmar and Sudan, and even the ousted Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh. Bring an end to all the violence. Heal those who are broken in mind and in body. Comfort those who mourn. Meet every heart in such powerful ways they will awaken to Your love and know You alone are God.
