As we pray for believers sharing Christ at the Olympics today, let’s pray also for those suffering and grieving in these countries:
ISRAEL: In a tunnel in Khan Younis, GAZA, the IDF found the remains of five Israelis killed during the massacre by Hamas terrorists on October 7: Ravid Katz, 51, Oren Goldin, 33, Maya Goren, 56, Sgt. Kiril Brodski, 19, and Staff Sgt. Tomer Yaakov Ahimas, 20. Their bodies were returned to Israel Wednesday.
EAST ASIA: Typhoon Gaemi caused widespread flooding and landslides and killed at least 34 people in the PHILIPPINES and eight in TAIWAN. In Fujian, CHINA, more than 150,000 people were relocated to safer areas.
PAPUA NEW GUINEA: At least 26 people, and perhaps as many as 50, including 16 children, were brutally murdered in a series of attacks by a gang of young men in a remote region.
MAURITANIA: At least 25 migrants died and more than 190 are still missing, after a wooden pirogue boat carrying around 300 passengers capsized near Nouakchott on Monday. Three weeks ago, another boat of migrants sank in the same waters, killing at least 89.
NEPAL: A plane crash killed 18 at the Kathmandu airport Wednesday. Only the pilot survived.
Lord, please protect and rescue those in danger, heal the wounded, comfort those who mourn and rebuild the lives of all who have lost so much. When they cry out for help, come quickly to their aid and provide for them in such a way they will know You are the One who did that. Give the lost a hunger for Your love so fierce they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Visit them in their dreams to show them Your salvation through Christ, and bring Christians to love them, care for their needs and share with them Your good news. Block future attacks of violence and bring evildoers to their knees in repentance and fear of the Lord. Awaken every heart in each of these nations to Your love, and multiply Your church. Raise into positions of leadership those who will open the way for Your gospel to freely be preached to every heart. For only You are the Way, the Truth and the Life, Jesus. Only in You do the nations find the meaning they seek. Only in You do we experience the forgiveness that leads to abundant life here on Earth and eternal life in Heaven. Don’t let even one more person die without hearing Your good news. In Your name we pray. Amen.
