Christians in India Murdered for Their Faith

At the end of last month, as Bindu Sodhi and her family prepared their rice field for planting, a group of Hindu extremists, including extended family members, assaulted them and killed Bindu, 22. Rather than registering her case or taking action against the murderers, police detained those insisting on a burial for Bindu. (Anto Akkara & Peter, Global Christian Relief, June 27)

Bindu’s murder is only one of several attacks against Christians in Chhattisgarh state, India, in recent weeks. On June 12, seven families were assaulted in a village near Bindu’s. And the previous month, another Christian was assaulted, killed, and then buried by the murderers.

Local Christian leaders said such Hindu crowds, including government officials, have been assaulting believers in the area, including many women and children, for refusing to renounce their faith. Last year,

Hindus worship anywhere from 33 to 330 million gods. As political movements push for a Hindu nation, mobs of extremists have been violently attacking Christians in many areas throughout India, including Manipur and Delhi, and pastors and other believers are often arrested for sharing the Gospel with Hindus.

Lord, please protect Bindu’s family and the other persecuted Christians mentioned in this post. Be a Shield of protection around every believer in Chhattisgarh and all throughout India. Bless them abundantly, provide for all their needs, comfort them in their grief, heal their wounds, and give them grace to forgive. Shine Your love through them so powerfully many will see and long to know You. Send Your angel armies to block every assault against them. Open the eyes of their persecutors, especially Bindu’s extended family members who joined in her murder, to see those angels and tremble at Your power and Your love for believers. Give them a hunger to know the God who loves like that. Peel the plaster from their spiritual eyes so they will see You as You truly are, and break the chains that bind them to false gods. Meet them in their dreams night after night, and in visions all throughout each day. Pierce their hearts with remorse for their sin and a desperation for Truth. As Hindus in Chhattisgarh and other Indian states bow to idols, make every ritual feel hollow and wrong. Give them courage to defy tradition and seek You with all their hearts until they find You, Jesus. Make a way for them to hear Your Word preached in their more than 2,000 languages and truly understand. Call out Christians to translate Your Word into each of those languages, pray for them, preach the gospel among them, love them in heart-transforming ways and plant churches in every Hindu community. Break the chains of witchcraft and spirit worship, and release them from the control of demons who blind them from the Truth and hold them in prisoner to fear, darkness and lies. We ask You, Lord, for dramatic conversion experiences among Hindu extremists. We pray brahmanas, gurus, political figures and other promoters of Hinduism will hear You calling them to Yourself; meet You through dreams, visions, miracles and other power encounters; forsake all other gods to serve the one true God of Life; and lead whole families, villages and people groups to faith. We ask You, God of Light, for breakthrough among Hindus in India this year. Break through the darkness with Your light. Show them a better way, the only Way, Truth and Life. When they hear Your good news, grip them with the understanding that You are the One they’ve been longing for, and open wide their hearts to receive You. We ask You, Father, for a Great Awakening in India and all throughout the world in every Hindu community, with thousands, even millions turning laying down their gods to worship You alone.
