The Christian population of Syria has diminished dramatically and many church buildings lie in ruins after more than a decade of civil war and last year’s earthquakes. But these factors have also brought about a hunger for Truth among Muslims, and more and more are now converting to Christianity.
Nearly 90% Muslim, Syria is #12 on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for Christians. Yet, even with the continued threat of persecution, the Syrian church has boldly reached out to share Christ with the lost.
“This was one thing that amazed me in Syria: to see the Church growing and opening the doors for everybody from all backgrounds to come,” said Pastor Fayez Youssef. “It’s the natural role of a church to be light in the places of this darkness, to show God’s love and mercy towards the people and share the Good News. The church in Syria is (doing) a great job.” (Mission Network News, July 4)
“Jesus is everything to me. When I had no one, He was with me, my brother, my companion, my best friend. I talk to Him all the time, I rely on Him, Jesus truly saved my life. When I wanted to kill myself, He pulled me back and gave me hope for the future. When things go wrong, I escape to Jesus. I know He has a good plan for my life.”

Stories from Syria: A Dream of Jesus
Lord, we ask You for a Great Awakening to You all across Syria and beyond. Lift the veil from the eyes of the lost so they will see You as You truly are. Show Yourself strong on behalf of the persecuted and abandoned. Protect the innocent. Shield those who seek You or already believe in You. Perform signs and wonders, miracles and healings as powerful demonstrations of Your love, turning all eyes to You. Get up in the face of every militant and confront them with Truth. Bring them to their knees before You in fear of the Lord, so they lay down their weapons, repent of atrocities committed, and choose You as Savior. Give Christians courage and Your Spirit’s empowering to share Your Good News with those who are hungry for You in a way they can easily understand, and increase that hunger all throughout the nation and among refugees in other nations, drawing thousands of lost Syrians to find true refuge in the arms of the One True King and Savior. Take what the enemy has meant for evil and turn it around into a mighty movement of Muslims coming to faith in Christ. Awaken the lost to Your love, O God. Awaken all Syrians to You.
