Christian Teen Tortured, Martyred in Pakistan

On June 6, Haji Muhammad Saleem, the Muslim owner of a plastic bottle factory in Lahore, along with his son Umar and three Muslim factory workers, Shahzad, Bilal and Shani tortured and killed Waqas Salamat, an 18-year-old Catholic who worked at the factory, for leaving the job against Haji’s wishes. Police arrested one worker, but Haji and the others obtained pre-arrest bail. Waqas’ family — mother Rubina, father Masih, older brother Kashif, and 13-year-old brother, Awais Salamat (who also works at the factory and witnessed the murder) — do not have money to bury Waqas or pursue a case against his murderers. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, June 11)

Lord, please comfort Rubina, Masih, Kashif and Awais, and provide for all their needs. Show Your mercy to them and bring justice. Be a Shield around them and protect them from further attacks, especially Awais, who was still working at the factory at the time of this report. Heal his mind from the terrible murder he witnessed. Provide for him a new job where he will feel safe and receive better pay. Honor this family for the martyr of their son. Increase their faith. Empower them to forgive and show love such as no Muslim in that area has seen. Speak through them, love through them in such powerful ways Muslims all around them will drop what they have been holding onto and reach for You, Jesus, instead. Bring together the community of believers to help the Salamats with the costs of the funeral and to move the case forward. Give them favor with police, judges, neighbors and other factory workers. Provide the way for Haji, Umar, Shahzad, Bilal and Shani to be charged with assault and murder and placed in jail so they will not repeat such violence upon others. Visit these five in their dreams at night and show them their terrible crimes and their need for a Savior. Talk to them throughout the day and give them visions that lead them to repentance. Break the chains that bind them to false religion and demons of violence, and grip them with remorse for this murder, the way that You gripped Paul in Acts 9 for the murders of so many Christians and then transformed his heart to follow You with a passion, lead many lost to faith and build Your church. Lift the veil from these persecutors’ eyes and unstop their ears so they will see You as You truly are and hear Your voice calling them to salvation. Ruin everything they trust in; give them no peace until they fall to their knees in fear of You and repentance. Use the mothers, the sisters, the wives in their lives to pressure them into change. Bury them beneath such a burden of guilt they can no longer bear it. Then move them to ask questions about Christ, to seek You and find You. Shine Your light into the darkness of that bottle factory so brightly that all the workers there will hunger and thirst for You. Give them courage to stand up for what is right and to pursue Christ. Out of this terrible tragedy, Lord, we ask You to bring forth eternal good. Lead the lost to faith, grow the faith of the saved strong. Build Your kingdom here in this community, drawing every heart to Yourself. Grow Your church in Lahore and all of Punjab. For every Christian who is persecuted or martyred, bring 1,000 Muslims to faith in Christ. Lord, so many Pakistanis have never heard Your good news because Islam forbids them to convert. But where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Set the peoples of Lahore, Punjab and all of Pakistan free to seek Truth with all their hearts and find You. John 14:6. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
