Pakistan: Murder of Christian by Muslim Mob Leads to Yet More Death

Just a month ago, Christian Nazeer Masih Gill‘s family was attacked by an angry mob of about 2,000 Muslims, who savagely beat him to death and burned down his home and factory. Most of the Christians in that community fled their homes in fear. Read the story here:

Muslim Mob Kills Christian in Pakistan

Shortly after this tragic murder, the Islamic extremist group Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) organized a rally in support of the homicide and threatened to murder yet more Christians.

“Tell me if we were wrong in killing that Chuhra who burned the Quran?” TLP Sargodha leader Muhammad Naeem Chattha Qadri told supporters. “We will never compromise on the sanctity and respect of the Quran, and whoever commits blasphemy will meet the same fate.” Chuhra is a pejorative term historically reserved for sanitation workers, now used as a derogatory term for all Christians.

Qadri warned police against targeting the TLP activists, threatening that “we will tear the uniforms of senior police in the chowks [main streets] if they attempt to protect the blasphemers.”

“They ask us to remain peaceful, but we want to tell them that if incidents of Quran desecration do not stop, we will deal with it in the same manner as the incident in Sargodha,” he said as the crowd shouted slogans like, “Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah [We are present O messenger of Allah].”

Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, June 12

Nazeer’s widow, Allah Rakhi Bibi, died last Friday of cardiac arrest at age 72 after a month of anguish. Their son, Sultan (who was also attacked, but escaped), said her tears never dried since his father’s death, and increased all the more after suspects were released on bail June 13. (CDI-MSN, June 25)

Lord, please comfort Sultan and his other family members as they mourn the loss of his parents, their home and their livelihood. Hold them in Your arms, heal their hearts and minds, speak tenderly to them and give them courage to forgive. Shield them and other Christians in the area from yet more persecution, especially after Muhammad’s speech and the sentiment at the rally. Surround every Christian in Punjab and all throughout Pakistan with Your angels, even make those angels visible to would-be persecutors. Grow every believer strong in their faith and protect them from persecution and harm. Make their love, joy and peace so evident, and bless them so abundantly by Your mighty hand that every Muslim will see the difference You make in their lives and hunger for You. Bring Muhammad, the other TLP members, each Muslim in the mob of 2,000 that attacked Nazeer and his family, the suspects who were arrested and then let go, and all Muslim extremists to their knees in fear of You. We ask You, Jesus, to personally visit each of them in their dreams, telling them You alone are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Make the gospel known to them in such a clear way they won’t be able to resist Your call to salvation. Use this terrible tragedy to bring about a deep hunger for LOVE instead of violence in every Muslim’s heart. Cause the lost to seek the truth about Christ, and give them courage to believe. For every Christian persecuted, bring to faith 100 Muslims. For every Christian home or church that is burned, plant 100 more churches. Yes, Lord, awaken Pakistan to Your love. Don’t let even one more Muslim die without hearing the good news that You loved them so much You sent Your Son to die in their place so they can be saved. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
