BANGLADESH: After weeks of heavy rains have flooded farmlands and homes in the northeast, nearly two million stranded people face the threat of food shortages and waterborne diseases. In the south, at least ten Rohingya refugees from Myanmar, including three children, died from mudslides and heavy rainfall in refugee camps.
INDIA: Landslides, heavy rains and flooding have affected more than four million people in Assam state, and at least 31 have died since May.
USA: In just over a week, 15 have died and 135 were wounded in mass shootings in Alabama, Ohio, Arkansas, New York, Missouri, North Carolina, California, Florida, New Jersey, Mississippi, Virginia, DC, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, Indiana and Kentucky.
Meanwhile, flooding in the Midwest has killed at least two people and collapsed a bridge between South Dakota and Iowa. Hundreds are in need of rescue or evacuation.
SOUTH KOREA: A fire at a lithium battery factory in Hwaseong on Monday injured eight and killed 22, including 18 migrants from China and one from Laos.
NORTH KOREA: Another 350 trash-laden balloons headed across the border to South Korea Sunday night, bringing the tally to over 1,000 since May. After tightened ties with Russia’s president in recent days, North Korea tested what appears to have been a hypersonic missile today, which exploded in flight, in defiance of a US aircraft carrier joining South Korea and Japan in a military drill.
GREECE: A German tourist, age 67, died while hiking on the island of Crete. He is the sixth tourist to die in scorching temperatures this June. Others are still missing.
Lord, please protect and rescue those in danger, heal the wounded, comfort those who mourn and rebuild the lives of all who have lost so much. When they cry out for help, come quickly to their aid and provide for them in such a way they will know You are the One who did that. Give the lost a hunger for Your love so fierce they will seek You with all their hearts and find You. Visit them in their dreams to show them Your salvation through Christ, and bring Christians to love them, care for their needs and share with them Your good news. Block future attacks of violence and bring evildoers to their knees in repentance and fear of the Lord. Awaken every heart in each of these nations to Your love, and multiply Your church. Raise into positions of leadership those who will open the way for Your gospel to freely be preached to every heart. For only You are the Way, the Truth and the Life, Jesus. Only in You do the nations find the meaning they seek. Only in You do we experience the forgiveness that leads to abundant life here on Earth and eternal life in Heaven. Don’t let even one more person die without hearing Your good news. In Your name we pray. Amen.
