Muslim Mob Kills Christian in Pakistan

Christian businessman Nazeer Masih Gill died June 3 from injuries sustained when mosque loudspeakers incited a mob of about 2,000 Muslims to assault his family and burn down his shoe factory and home in Sargodha, Punjab Province, Pakistan, on May 25.

Armed with gasoline bombs, bricks, stones and sticks, the angry crowd attacked the home of Nazeer and his son Sultan Masih Gill, demanding their deaths, after a Muslim neighbor, Ayub Gondal, falsely accused them of defiling the Quran. Police successfully rescued nine family members from the mob by using tear gas, but couldn’t save Nazeer.

Most of the 200 Christian families in that community of 2,000 Muslim households have now fled in fear, abandoning their homes and the four churches where they worshipped Christ. (Christian Daily International – Morning Star News, June 6; and Global Christian Relief, May 28)

Such false accusations by Muslims against their Christian neighbors are common, especially in Punjab Province. Fabricated allegations can incite riots, violence, lynchings and other forms of murder of Christians and other minorities in the mainly Muslim nation where blasphemy carries the death penalty. Many innocent Christians have suffered in jail for years without a trial because judges are afraid of retribution should the believers in Christ be found not guilty.

With 844 unreached people groups, Pakistan is nearly 97% Muslim and 99% unreached with the gospel of Christ.

Lord, we thank You for the members of Nazeer’s family You miraculously saved in the midst of such violence, but our hearts grieve for them and for the families who have fled their homes. Please intervene on their behalf. Provide for all their needs, bless them abundantly and rebuild their lives, homes and churches. Give Christians courage and Your love’s empowering to forgive and show love to those who have persecuted them. Be a Shield around every Christian all throughout Pakistan, including hundreds of Christians in prison on false charges. Fill their homes and jail cells with Your angels and Your felt presence. Remind them of worship songs and Scripture passages that give them hope and peace. Use them to share Your good news with the lost around them. Raise them up as You did Joseph, giving them favor and setting them free. Whenever Muslims come against Your people, make Your angel armies visible to them. Bring persecutors to their knees in fear of You. Cause those bent on evil to drop their weapons of violence and surrender to Your invitation to love instead. We ask You, Jesus, to personally visit Ayub Gondal and each one of the thousands of Muslims who participated in the attacks. Give them dreams of You standing there, arms open wide, telling them You alone are the Way, the Truth and the Life. Make the gospel known to them in such a clear way they won’t be able to resist Your call to salvation. Use this terrible tragedy to bring about a deep hunger for LOVE instead of violence in every Muslim’s heart. Cause the lost to seek the truth about Christ, and give them courage to believe. Open the way for Your Word to be translated into every language of Pakistan’s 844 unreached people groups and made available to every person. Don’t let even one more person die without hearing the good news of Your salvation. Increase Your church by the thousands, even millions. For every Christian persecuted, bring to faith 100 Muslims. For every Christian home or church that is burned, plant 100 more churches. Yes, Lord, awaken Pakistan to Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
