In a days-long military operation, the Nigerian army freed 350 hostages from Boko Haram last month. Most of those were children (209) and women (135) held captive in the Sambisa Forest, which runs along the border of Cameroon and Niger. Some of the girls clutched babies from rapes or forced marriages to their Muslim abusers.
“Many of the women—who were widowed, kidnapped and held hostage for years by the extremists—now have no spouses, homes or livelihoods to return to. And some have several young mouths to feed after being subjected to sexual assaults,” said Abigail Hart of Global Christian Relief, which provides aid to Boko Haram victims in several Nigerian refugee camps. They and other Christian organizations are helping with trauma counseling and business startups for those who need to feed their children.
Over the past few years, tens of thousands of Christians have been murdered in Nigeria and millions have been displaced. In fact, even though the West African nation is over 50% Christian, 80-90% of believers martyred for their faith are killed there, mostly by Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram.
Thank You, Lord, for the brave soldiers who fought for these women, children and six men to at last be free. Please now give the each victim the counseling and care they need. Provide for all their needs, and do it in a way that they know it is You. Reunite them with family members and caring friends, and rebuild their lives like only You can. Save those who are lost and strengthen the faith of those who are saved. Surround every Christian, village and family in Nigeria with Your angel armies and guard them from persecution and harm. Open the eyes of their assailants to see Your armies blocking them, looming large as a shield of protection for everyone who loves You. Break the chains that bind each terrorist to Satan’s bidding and bring them to their knees in fear of the Lord and repentance. Invade their sleep at night with dreams of Jesus. Interrupt their every day with visions to show them the way of salvation. Break every tie that has bound terrorists to a god of hatred, destruction and murder. Give them courage to lay down their false religion and seek Truth with all their hearts, so they will at last find Him. John 14:6, Jeremiah 29:13. Please rescue the hundreds of Christians still in captivity to Boko Haram and the Fulani. Be a Shield around them and protect them from harm. Provide for all their needs. Heal their minds and hearts from trauma. Fill them with songs of deliverance. Rise up, O Lord, and fight for Your people. Perform miracles and signs and wonders, healing the sick and wounded, and even raising the dead to life! Show radical Muslims over and over that they are serving demons, not God, and awaken their hearts to yearn for the only One who can save them from their sin. Increase Your church by the millions, Lord. Fill Nigeria with converts from Islam to faith in Christ. In this nation ravaged by violence and death, bring forth LIFE now in the name of Jesus. Awaken the Fulani, awaken Boko Haram, awaken every Muslim and every heart to You. Don’t let even one more attack on Christians occur without Your miraculous intervention. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
