Thousands Killed in PNG, Ukraine, Mexico, Spain, India

PAPUA NEW GUINEA: A massive landslide buried between 600-2,000 people and displaced about 4,000 survivors in the remote village of Yambali in Enga Province on Friday. Only six bodies have been recovered so far. Tribal warfare complicates rescue, as aid convoys and international relief workers require military escorts. In addition, a wide section of the province’s main highway now lies beneath about 26 feet of mud and debris.

MEXICO: During a presidential campaign rally Wednesday in the northern city of San Pedro Garza García, strong winds toppled a stage, killing nine and injuring more than 121. In Chiapas, at least 14 have been killed in attacks against political candidates.

SPAIN: On the island of Majorca, a building collapsed Thursday, killing at least four and injuring 27.

UKRAINE: Russian missile strikes on Thursday killed 16 people in Kharkiv and injured at least 43. A strike at a large shopping center Saturday killed at least 18, and injured 48; five are still missing. Russia captured Ivanivka in Kharkiv and Netailove in Donetsk.

INDIA: A fire at a gaming arcade in Gujarat’s Rajkot killed at least 27 people Saturday. Just hours later, seven newborn babies died and six were injured in a children’s hospital fire in New Delhi.

Lord, please rescue those who are trapped, heal those who are wounded, comfort those who mourn and rebuild the lives of all who have lost so much. When they cry out to You for help, Lord, come quickly to their aid and provide for them in such a way they will know You are the One who did that. Give the lost a hunger for Your love, and bring Christians to love them, care for their needs and share with them Your good news. Awaken every heart in each of these nations to You.
