Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis

Leading up to the International Day for the Unreached on May 19 here at the Prayer Wall, we are praying daily for unreached people groups in the news. Come join us, and invite your praying friends.

Today, let’s lift up the three main terrorist groups engaging in warfare activities against Israel and their allies at this time. They are unreached because their nations and communities violently oppose leaving Islam.

Hamas is an acronym for the Islamic Resistance Movement, “Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya,” a Sunni Muslim terrorist group of about 20-25,000 extremists created in 1987 for the purpose of armed resistance against Israel and establishing an Islamic Palestinian state in its place. Hamas has governed the Gaza Strip since ousting the Palestinian Authority in 2007. It has also opposed ISIS and other Salafist Muslim militant groups in Gaza. (DNI.gov) Hamas instigated the October 7 attack on Israel, taking more than 240 hostages and starting a war.

Hezbollah, or “Party of Allah,” is a Lebanese Shia Islamist political party and militant group of about 50-100,000 founded during the Lebanese Civil War (1975-1990). A proxy of Iran, the terrorist group opposes Israel, as well as Western influence in the Middle East. Since Hamas’ invasion of Israel last fall, they have increased air strikes against Israel along the border region, which the Jewish nation has returned. (CFR.org)

Caught in a Battle Not Their Own, Lebanese Christians Choose Love

Houthi terrorists take their name from the Zaidi Muslim religious leader Hussein al-Houthi, who opposed Yemen’s president in the 1990s. Their official name, Ansar Allah, means “Supporters of God.” The rebel Houthis number about 200,000 and are backed by Iran in the current Yemen civil war, which began in 2014 against the Saudi-backed Yemeni government. They also war against other Muslim groups. After the Israel-Hamas war began in October, the Houthis have fired missiles at Israel and attacked ships in the Red Sea, accusing them of carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza. (Wikipedia.org) Most of those attacks have been thwarted by India, the US and other countries with presence in the Sea.

As Hamas has used Gazans for human shields, as Hezbollah has cared not for the Lebanese citizens caught up in their war, and as Houthis have abused and killed many thousands of Yemeni men, women and children, we ask You, Lord, to burn within every Muslim heart all across the Middle East a yearning for more than violence, lust and evil. Give them a hunger for Love so strong they will search for Truth with all their hearts and find Jesus. Meet them in their dreams. Drive them into Your arms. Lift the veil from their eyes and show them who You truly are, that You are the One this life is for, You LOVE them and You are GOOD. Counter every evil attack, whether against Israelis, Muslims or some other country, with Your gospel penetrating hearts once hardened to Truth. Soften those hearts, remove the plaster from their eyes, and show them the way to salvation. Bring the good news to them in such clear and inviting ways, even (and especially) terrorists will not be able to resist You. May thousands turn away from Islam, meet the Prince of Peace and give their hearts to serve the God who is Love. Awaken every terrorist embedded among Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. Invade their space. Get up in their face. Make them see Your angels fighting against them and fall to their knees in fear and trembling. Press upon the breaking point of every Muslim heart, until at last they see You are the One they were created for, that You made them for love, not destruction; to build up, not tear down; to help, not dismember; to bless, not abuse and kill. Open their ears to hear Your voice calling them to Christ. And save them, O Lord. Bring Christians into their path filled with joy and peace, who will show them Love like they’ve never known before. And change their hearts forever, Lord. May they die to satan’s purposes and come alive to Your leading.
