Nearly 140 Christians from indigenous Nahuatl communities in Hidalgo, Mexico, fled their homes April 26, when village leaders vandalized their church and properties, cut off their electricity and posted guards to prevent them from re-entering. Among the displaced are 75 infants and children. (Diana Chandler, BP, April 30)
Persecution is not new to Protestants in Hidalgo. Last fall, we shared with you the tragic torture of a woman and pastor in that same area, where non-Catholics face
- Severe beatings
- Detainments
- Confiscation of property
- Destruction of crops
- Barred access to medical care
- Forced financial support of and participation in Catholic activities
- Banning of their children from public school
Join us at PrayerWall.pw for the International Day for the Unreached May 19.
Lord, please fight for the believers in Hidalgo, and especially for these who are now displaced. Give them courage and Your empowering to forgive. Chase out their fear with Your perfect love. Be a Shield around them and protect them from harm. Provide for all their needs and give back to them 100-fold what has been stolen. Show their persecutors the favor You give to those who love and follow You, and bring evildoers to their knees in repentance and fear of the Lord. Break off the chains that bind the lost to demonic forces and false religion. Open their ears to hear You calling them to Yourself. Whenever village leaders or others plot evil against Your children, step in the way, Lord. Let them see You and tremble. Tear down every barrier to the gospel, break the chains of fear and oppression, and set the peoples of Hidalgo and all of Mexico free to run after You. Make the love, joy and peace in Christians’ lives so evident, their neighbors will hunger for You, and entire villages will choose You as Savior. Fight for Your children who are in danger all throughout Mexico. Protect them, strengthen them, provide for their needs, and embolden them to love, bless and share Your Word all the more. Bring forth a great revival among all the churches of Mexico, with thousands turning to faith in You. Yes, Lord, awaken the lost to the light of Your unfailing love.
