Join us for 30 Days of Prayer for Global Awakening, March 11-April 9, 2024, as we pray for persecuted Christians, their persecutors and the nations to awaken to Christ’s love.
Last June, we prayed for 24-year-old Noman Masih, a Christian in Pakistan sentenced to death after a false conviction of blasphemy. We prayed he would be acquitted and his life spared.
Last week, a judge cited double jeopardy due to police in two cities filing charges against Noman for the same incident. He was acquitted of one charge, and there is hope he could be acquitted of the other, as prosecution has yet to provide evidence against him. Police arrested Noman in his home, but reports said he was arrested at a park showing blasphemous photos to a group of people. (Christian Daily International-Morning Star News, Feb 28)
Please join us in prayer for Noman’s complete acquittal and for his quick release from prison in Bahawalpur, Punjab, where he awaits the appeal of his death sentence.
Noman’s cousin, Sunny Waqas, also arrested regarding the same incident, has been granted bail and has now fled Pakistan.
Pray as Sunny runs, he will seek the Lord and cry out to Him for help, and the Lord will answer in such a way he will know it is Him. Pray God will hide and protect him, grow his faith, provide for his needs, and place him in a church that will love him and disciple him.
Nearly 98% Muslim, Pakistan ranks 7th on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for Christians. Blasphemy cases against believers are on the rise, as are murders, abductions, abuse and forced marriages of Christian girls to Muslim men. Punjab province has especially been hit hard since August with mobs of thousands burning churches and homes and torturing and murdering Christians. With 828 unreached people groups comprising 99% of the population, most Pakistanis have never heard the Good News about Christ.
Lord, please have mercy. Give Noman’s lawyer and family wisdom in how to proceed, and give him favor with the judge and police. Release him quickly from jail and from this death sentence. Be a Shield around Sunny and let him feel You near him. Draw him close to You at this difficult time and carry him to safety. Calm his fears with Your perfect love. Show him Your grace. Hide him from those who seek his life, and bring him to a place of shelter where Christians will love him, care for him, and build him up in his faith. Provide for his needs and care for him in such a way he will know it is You. Appoint Your angel armies to surround Noman, Sunny, their families and all Christians in Pakistan, protecting them from harm. Make those angels visible to every persecutor that even thinks of coming against them. Bring those bent on evil to their knees in repentance and fear of the Lord. Grow every Christian strong in faith, love, courage and knowledge of Your Word. Empower them by Your Spirit to stand in the face of so much persecution. Where there has been no justice, Lord, where Your people have been falsely accused, tortured, forced to make claims that are not truth, step in now and let them feel Your presence with them. You see them. You know them. You love them. There are no words they speak which You have not already heard and provided grace for. Let them feel Your mercy and grace now, Your kindness and forgiveness. Draw them up into Your arms and hold them. You know what they are going through, and what they have suffered for Your name in the midst of so much darkness and evil. Please, Lord, open the way for them to be built back up in You all the stronger, with love and all the more passion for You. Father God, so many of the Christians in Pakistan who have been falsely accused, kidnapped, tortured, raped, forced to study Islam or marry Muslims are young people not yet mature in their faith. Make a way for every youth to quickly hold fast You, for their roots to go deep in Your love and faithfulness and in the nourishment of Your Word, so they can grow up fast and strong and ready to withstand every terrible storm that seeks to bring them down.
We ask You, Lord, for a mighty movement of Your Spirit among the Christians of Pakistan, especially in Punjab. Draw them into fervent prayer and Bible study. When they seek You, answer in powerful ways. We ask You for signs and wonders and miracles. Heal the sick, raise the dead, make the lame walk, multiply the resources of the needy and poor, but most of all, O God, bring hope in the midst of misery and fear. Cut through the harshness of their lives with the love, peace and joy of Your felt presence. Galatians 5:22-25. Give them songs of joy to sing in worship to You. Draw them together to pray for each other and encourage one another. Open up Your Word to speak into their circumstances in such powerful ways they will leap with joy to obey You, to follow Your Spirit’s lead every moment, to share with the lost, to be lights for You in the midst of such darkness. And bring about a great movement of Muslims who once hated them to now surrender to Christ with open arms. For every Christian persecuted, we ask You, Lord, for 1,000 Muslims to come to faith. For every hateful act against those who bear Your name, Jesus, we ask You for rivers of forgiveness, love and grace to flow so freely the lost will have no excuse left; they will see the power of the One who is Love, they will see the difference You make in the lives of these Christians, and they will jump into the depths of Your Living Water to never thirst again. Awaken every heart in Punjab to Christ. Meet them in their dreams. Show them who You truly are. Begin with the police who are bringing these accusations, the judge and anyone else involved in this case. Begin with those who have hated these young men simply because they are Christians. Show Muslims the way of salvation so clearly the chains which have held them to false religion, hatred and evil acts will be broken, and they will surrender at last to the One who created them for Love, they will surrender to You, Lord. Awaken every Muslim in all of Pakistan to You. Begin a church planting movement in Punjab that is out of control, until every tribe, every tongue in all of Pakistan praises the One this life is for. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
