While the world fixes its attention on war in Gaza and Ukraine, the peoples of Myanmar have endured genocide, rape, and endless burnings of their villages, schools and hospitals in a horrific civil war. (See our November 20 post and dedicated Pray for Myanmar page.)
Today, we’re excited to share with you that God is answering our prayers. Tens of thousands of formerly hard-hearted Buddhists are awakening to Christ!
Although the Gospel has been in Myanmar for two centuries, most Christian growth has occurred among ethnic minority groups such as the Karen, Chin, Kachin and Lisu. The majority Burmese (numbering 35 million people) have remained firmly entrenched in their Buddhist beliefs.
(But now,) from across the densely populated plains … inhabited by Buddhist peoples like the Burmese, Chaungtha, Mon and Rakhine, reports have emerged of families and sometimes whole communities being transformed by the Lord Jesus Christ. People who were dead in their sins have been given new hearts; the hopeless now have hope and purpose in their lives; families that have worshipped idols for centuries are now praising the Living God; and many broken people are being put back together.
Just one church movement we work closely with has grown from 2,000 to 7,000 believers (in 2023)…. Many of those who have experienced God’s salvation for the first time are from the lowest rungs of society – prostitutes, drug addicts, gang members, and those who have become deeply disillusioned with life.
This year we have provided 80,000 full Burmese Bibles to help fuel the revival and establish new believers in the faith. Now we are printing another 80,000 through our Asia Bible Fund.

As you pray this prayer below from our September of 2022 post, notice how many of these requests God has now begun to answer, and let’s rejoice and give Him praise!
As devastating as the violence, terror and death have been in Myanmar, thank You, Lord, for these new lives. Grow them now in their faith, and fill them with Your Spirit. May they overflow with love, joy and peace, boldly sharing of Your great love and salvation with lost family members and neighbors. Grow Your church all the more. For every Christian who has been persecuted, bring 1,000 lost to faith in Christ. For every church that is attacked, plant 100 more. Comfort those who are in dangerous situations right now, Lord, whether hiding in jungles, stealing across borders, or facing military attacks. Shield every believer and church in Myanmar, guarding them from persecution. Hide them from those who seek to do them harm, and protect them completely, Lord. Make those who come against them see the angels guarding them and fall to their knees in repentance and fear of the Lord. When Christians cry out to You, answer them, protect them, provide for them abundantly, comfort them, heal them miraculously and renew their strength. From out of the ashes of this terrible war, bring forth great rewards for Your Kingdom, tens of thousands coming to faith. Crush every enemy plot, bring down every leader and soldier bent on evil, and raise up a chosen generation passionate for Your purposes and driven by Your calling on their lives to share Your good news far and wide, both within their borders and beyond. Awaken the peoples of Myanmar to You, O God. At least 52 of their people groups, more than 45 million people, have been cut off from the Truth. Make a way for every person to have a Bible in their language and hear the good news presented to them in a way they can easily understand. And save them, O God, both from this war and for all eternity. Don’t let even one more person die in Myanmar without the chance to know of the sacrifice Christ paid so they can live forevermore. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
