Repentance and Humility

James 4:10

Lord, we have wandered far from You. We have placed our own pain, fear, pride, selfishness, doubt, anger, judgment, lust and so much more above the simplicity of surrendering to You and letting Your Spirit guide our thoughts and actions. Proverbs 3:5-7, John 5:19. Forgive us, Lord. For we have left our First Love. All the times we did what we thought was best, rather than seeking You, … all the ways that we have pushed our own agendas, even running over others to get what we want … all the barriers we put up to “protect” our hearts … have brought us nowhere, for the love, peace, joy and protection we’ve wanted so desperately is only found in You. Galatians 5. Break our pride, O God. For we have called truth what is not. We have worshipped worldly agendas, picking sides in earthly battles and fighting against those You called us to love. We have pushed aside Your Word for fear of what others would think of us, or because we find Your truth inconvenient or burdensome. But, Lord, Your Word is what sets us free. John 8:31-32. When did we forget that? Bring our thoughts back in line with Yours. Give us humble, repentant hearts that agree with what You say about who we are, not what the enemy says. Tear down every lie we have clung to in order to protect ourselves or get what we think we need, and bury us in Your Truth, so we will at last come alive with Your love. Forgive us. Heal us. Free us. And turn our hearts back to You. Mend our marriages. Help us as fathers and mothers to rise up and lead our children away from the world and into Your arms. Help us model for this next generation what it means to surrender to Your ways and obey You. Show them the blessings that come from that obedience. Let them see such a huge transformation in our hearts and lives as we repent and turn to You that they also will seek to walk in oneness with You and with each other. Give us a hunger for You so fierce, we will forget every other passion but this one pure, holy one: to know and follow hard after You. Amen.
