Better Not Pout

Sometimes, even when God has given us so much, we get upset because there’s something else we want that we don’t yet have. It may be a valid desire, even one placed there by the Lord because He plans to fulfill it one day.

But the pouting is not God’s plan, neither is self-pity, anger at God or depression. Resting in His promises, worshipping Him, surrendering to His plans is where you will find the peace, joy and hope you’re looking for; He alone is the fulfillment of all our desires. Psalm 34:7.

So, what have you been asking God for that you don’t yet have? And how has that affected your joy?

Jesus said in Matthew 22:37-40 that only one thing matters: LOVE. That is what you are here on Earth for — not getting what you want, or all your problems going away, or everyone treating you right — but did you love? Did you let God’s love transform you? How are you loving Him back? And how are you doing with loving others, even in the midst of your own need?

A prayer from Philippians 4:4-13:

Lord, teach me how to rejoice in You always. Through Your love, give me a spirit of gentleness that is evident to all. Remind me You are here with me always. Let me experience Your presence, hear Your voice, feel Your touch. Forgive me, Lord, for my anxious thoughts. Remind me in every situation to pray, to hand You all my requests with a thankful heart, even in the waiting. Then Your peace —  far beyond anything I could understand or hope for — will guard my heart and mind in You, Christ Jesus. Help me fix my mind on what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy. YOU are all those things, Jesus. Fix my heart and mind on You. Whatever I have learned or received or heard or seen in others that is from You, empower me to put that into practice, so You, O God of Peace, will be with me. Instead of need controlling my thoughts and actions, teach me to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. But teach me the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Let me do all things through You, the One who strengthens me.
