More than 157 people died and over 170 were injured in a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that shook northwestern Nepal Friday night and flattened many villages. People as far away as New Delhi, India, also felt the tremors. Then, today, another earthquake hit in the same area as the first, Ramidanda in Jajarkot district, followed by a 4.5 tremor in nearby Paink and other aftershocks.
The Himalayan country of more than 30 million people is still rebuilding after two earthquakes in 2015 killed almost 9,000 people and destroyed more 824,000 homes, and another earthquake hit last November.
With 218 unreached people groups and Hindu extremists targeting Christians and closing churches, persecution levels are high in Nepal, ranking it one of the most dangerous countries in the world. See this video by Voice of the Martyrs:
- Pray those mourning and rebuilding will meet caring Christians who will share of their provisions and tell them the Good News in a way they can easily understand.
- Pray those gripped with fear and anxiety due to memories of the 2015 earthquakes will hunger for God, and He will invade their dreams at night to comfort them, give them hope and tell them how they can be saved.
- Pray the Bible will be translated into every language and made available so that every person all throughout the country will know the Truth that sets them free.
- Pray doors will be opened for missionaries and local Christians to freely share the Good News with the lost.
- Pray for Christian women in Nepal who face persecution from their family members. Many are beaten, threatened, not allowed to go to church, rejected and left alone. Please pray that, with God’s strength, these women will continue to stand strong in their faith, and through them God would bring their entire families to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ. (Prayer request from Open Doors).
- Pray that Christians in Nepal will have wisdom to know how to share their faith safely, and boldness to continue sharing the gospel. Pray God will soften the hearts of those enforcing the restrictions on evangelism, and that He might draw them to Himself through the courageous witness of our brothers and sisters. (Prayer request from Open Doors).
