At least 18 people died and 13 were injured Wednesday in two mass shootings in Lewiston, Maine — one at a restaurant and another at a bowling alley, where families had gathered to play games. This is the deadliest of at least 566 mass shootings in the US reported by the Gun Violence Archive in 2023.
Lord, please comfort those who mourn and heal those who have been wounded. Wrap Your arms around the families grieving right now. Come so close to them that they hear Your voice comforting them and feel Your strong hands lifting them up to carry them through. In the sleeplessness of night, let them feel Your presence counting every tear, joining with them in both their sorrow and anger. Point the way out of their tunnel of grief into Your lighted path ahead. Save those who are lost. Renew the faith of those who are saved. Restore their strength. Carry them on Your Eagle wings and draw them to Yourself. Isaiah 40, Exodus 19:4. Bring Christians to each victim and family to love them through this hard time and share with them Your plan of salvation. Heal those who are physically or mentally wounded. Cast out every fear with Your infinite, perfect love. Meet them in the midst of every memory and show them You are with them. Be their Protector and Friend, their Strong Tower and Mighty Warrior. Fight for their hearts, Lord. Set them free from PTSD or whatever other pit the enemy wanted to dig for them. Bring Christian counselors to them to pray with them and help them to freedom from nightmares, panic and traumatic memories. Draw them up into Your arms and help them feel Your love in such powerful ways, they will choose You as their Lord and find peace. Take everything the enemy meant for evil and turn it around for great good. Reach into the heart and mind of the shooter. Destroy demonic bonds with Your love, grace and mercy. Break the chains that have bound him to lies and tormented his thoughts. Set him free to seek You and find You, Lord. Put a Bible in his hands and a prayer of hunger for You in his heart. And save him. Amen.
