Do you have a pet sin you don’t want to let go of?
Do you feed and “pet” it with your thoughts?
Psalm 66 tells us that if we know there is sin in our hearts but we do nothing about it, we are in grave spiritual danger.
If I regard sin and baseness in my heart [that is, if I know it is there and do nothing about it], The Lord will not hear [me].
Psalm 66:18 (AMP)
Radical execution (assasination!) of sin is necessary in order to walk as one with God.
If we keep caressing and feeding our pet sin thoughts, rather than turning from them, they will block us from His felt presence, protection, blessings, joy, peace, and the thrill of the Spirit’s power flowing through us. Psalm 66.
What sins I have cared for and kept alive in my heart like a pet that is destroying Your home in me, but that I love too much to get rid of? O God, fill me with remorse. Show me how my sin hurts You and draws me and others away from You. Make me hate it so much I never want to go back to it again. I know that in my own power, I am weak. But You, O God Almighty, are strong. You have promised me that I can do all thins through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13. Please now, O God, come and break down every wall I’ve put up to hide, cherish and protect my sin. Destroy all my lies of “I need this,” “This is just the way I am,” “I’ll never be free,” “Everyone struggles with this,” “I’m not hurting anyone,” and anything else the enemy has been telling me to keep me in bondage. Step in with Your magnificent truth, and fight for Me. For nothing is more glorious than walking in victory through the power of Your love. Break the chains that bind me, and set me free to be all You created me to be, to love You with all my heart and serve You alone, and to love others through the power of Your mighty love in me. This is what I was created for, not sin that destroys. Give me power to overcome, O Lord. Rise up within me, Mighty Warrior, and overcome my enemy. Teach me to turn my thoughts to You each time I’m tempted. Give me a hunger for You so great it overpowers all other hungers within me. YOU are the One I love. YOU are the One I want to cherish all the days of my life. YOU are my Home. Teach me how to make my Home in You, not in the false comfort of sin. Then Your blessings will burst forth in my life. When I call to You, You will hear and answer. I want to see miracles again, Lord. I want to be a part of You touching the lost and drawing them to You, healing the sick, helping the blind to see You. Use me for Your glory. The enemy has used me long enough. It’s time for me to surrender now at last to the One I was created for. Remake me, Lord. Cover me with Your love and grace and rebuild me into a vessel useful for Your glory. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
