More than 100 people are missing and at least 50 have died due to the bursting of a glacial lake, which sent flash floods through several towns in northeastern India’s Sikkim State Wednesday.
Home to 2,373 distinct people groups, India is 80% Hindu and 90% unreached with the Gospel. Due to anti-conversion laws and Hindu violence against Christians, the South Asian nation of more than 1.4 billion people ranks 11th on Open Doors’ World Watchlist of most dangerous countries for those who follow Jesus.
Lord, please have mercy on the thousands in need of help right now. Rescue those who are lost or trapped. Comfort those who grieve. Provide for those in need. And do it in such a way that they know You are the One who did that. Bring Christians to the rescue with food, water, shelter, clothing and other provisions, and use them to spread Your love, truth and peace. Speak through them to share Your message of salvation, and provide for the lost to hear Your truth in their heart language. We speak LIFE over India now, that the chains of sin and death will break and those who are lost and dying in worship of idols and sin will find You and live. Tear down every wall that keeps Hindus from believing in Jesus and worshipping You alone as God. Break the chains that bind them to false gods and demonic forces. Pierce through the prejudice, rage, violence and all manner of evil with Your love and truth, and set them free to worship You alone as God. Visit them in their dreams. Show Yourself to them in visions. Place in their grasp Your Word in a language they can easily understand. Give them a deep, deep hunger for more in this life, for the love, joy and peace only Christ can give, and set them on a quest to seek You with all their heart and find You. Awaken India to You, O Lord. Break down the barriers of government and religion, and open up a corridor for Your Gospel to spread into every village, home and heart, setting the people free from sin and death forever. Protect every Christian in the camps for displaced families. Don’t let any harm, violence or abuse come to them or anyone in their family. Bless them abundantly so they can bless others, and shine through them Your love and grace, planting new churches all among the camps as they draw the lost to You. Turn this terrible tragedy into an opportunity for hundreds to hear the Good News who have never heard before. May the camps resound with singing unto You, Almighty God. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
