Nagorno-Karabakh Dissolves, Armenians Flee

The separatist government of Nagorno-Karabakh said yesterday it will dissolve itself by the end of the year. After Azerbaijan’s successful military offensive last week, more than half the 120,000 ethnic Armenians in that region have fled to neighboring Armenia, fearing ethnic cleansing from their Muslim victors. An explosion at a makeshift gas station where hundreds of Armenian refugees had lined up to fuel their vehicles Monday night escalated that fear. At least 69 people died, more than 300 were injured and 105 are still missing.

The Battle for Nagorno-Karabakh

Father God, so much death has covered this region for so many decades. Grant Armenian families mercy. Comfort those who mourn and heal those who are injured. Quiet their fears with Your everlasting love. When Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh cry out to You, answer them please, O Lord. Please restore to them what they have lost, and rebuild their lives in You. Resettle them in communities that will care for them and in churches that will help them heal. Meet them in tender-but-powerful ways, reminding them of who You are. Give them courage and grace to forgive. Give Muslim Azerbaijanis a hunger for You so fierce they will let go of tradition, hatred and violence, and surrender to You. Meet them in their dreams. Talk to them throughout the day. Connect them with truth on the internet and through loving believers. Awaken them to You. Make a way for every Azerbaijani to know the Truth who sets them free.
