Battle Gains and Losses

This past week, the Lord gave me three dreams over three nights. In the second, God’s people were re-grouping after a last-days battle. We had lost everything, and yet it was nothing to us. Philippians 3:7-8. We knew the Lord was with us and would supply all our needs. Matthew 6:8-13. Encamped in a large clearing, we stayed close to one another for encouragement and unity. It was important to remember what we were fighting for and that the stakes are eternal. One woman sat hunched over, burdened with the loss of a loved one who had not chosen to follow Christ. She stared into a campfire, as the Lord spoke to her heart, giving her guidance and courage. Deuteronomy 1:32-33. That was the one loss we all felt, for this battle was not for things to go our way or for people to like us, like earthly battles are. This battle was for people’s souls.

A caravan of supplies arrived on the outskirts of the camp, and I was surveying it with another warrior who wanted to show me what he could do. He pressed a button and blew up the caravan car by car. It was a caravan of lies from the enemy, cleverly disguised to look like things we should place our trust in other than Christ. The button that destroyed those lies was prayer.

O Lord, please give us strength and courage. Remind us what we’re fighting for, that it’s not for things to go my way or for You or others to do what I want. This is a battle for souls, and the stakes are eternal. Teach us how to fight for the lost in prayer, and use us to share Your love with those who need to know You. Remove every temptation that leads us to trust in something or someone other than You. For in this battle, You are all we need. You are our strength. You are our supply. What have we been trusting in that is not You, O God? What have we said, “If only I had …, then I could….” to, Lord? Show us, please, and teach us to pray so that every lie is destroyed with Your truth and You are all we live for. Bring around us other believers who love You with all their hearts and who will encourage us in the faith and in prayer. Open up the space for us to walk closely together, doing life together and strengthening one another with Your love. Make us into a mighty army unified in fighting for Your purposes. In the midst of whatever fiery trials we face, speak to us and comfort us. Teach us how to seek You in the midst of temptation, so You will destroy every lie and set us free to trust in Truth alone. Teach us to walk in Philippians 3:7-8, so that what once was gain to us we now consider loss for the sake of the Gospel. Yes, Lord, awaken us with passion for You. Teach us to trust in You completely, to live for what matters most, and to share Your love with the lost.
