Eight Rohingya refugees have been rescued, but 30 are missing and at least 17 are dead after bad weather capsized their boat in the Bay of Bengal last week. Many of the Muslim-majority unreached people group highly persecuted in Myanmar have died at sea from hunger and disease as they seek to reach Malaysia and Indonesia, where Islam is accepted. Last year, more than 3,500 Rohingya sought such a treacherous journey. At least 348 died or are still missing at sea. See more about the Rohingya here:
Fire in Rohingya Huts, but also in Many Hearts
In addition, around 41 migrants are assumed dead after their vessel which launched in Sfax, Tunisia, shipwrecked near Italy’s southernmost island. Only four survived. Many Sub-Saharans traveling north with the hope of catching illegal boats to Italy have died in the desert along the borders of Libya, Tunisia and Algeria recently. At least 35 bodies have been found in Libya’s western desert near Tunisia’s border since July.
Accidents like this have become all too common as those fleeing war, violence, human rights violations, persecution and other dangers desperately seek safety. About 100 million people fled their homes and countries last year, and the UN’s refugee agency predicts that number to rise to 117.2 million displaced and stateless people in 2023. (See https://reporting.unhcr.org/globalappeal2023.)

Lord, we ask You, please for those throughout the world who have been displaced because of extremely traumatic conditions. Please come and meet them wherever they are. Shield them from danger. Show them Your love. Let them feel You close, hear Your whispers, see You in their dreams and visions, and know You as You truly are. So many millions of refugees still have yet to hear the Good News. They have felt lost, hopeless, forgotten, abandoned. Some are on dangerous routes even now, seeking safety and freedom. Send angels to guide them straight into Your perfect paths that will lead them to Christ. Don’t let even one more die without hearing Your clear invitation to salvation. Bring Christians to them to help them along their journeys, minister to their needs and show them what Your love is like — medical workers, counselors, aid workers, rescuers, shelterers, even fellow refugees. Connect the lost with churches and Christian outreaches. Bring them into homes and shelters where food, clothing, medicines and other needs can be filled by Christians who care. Multiply those supplies miraculously, Lord, so that everyone sees and knows You are the One who did that. Show Yourself strong on behalf of those who suffer. Perform signs and miracles and wonders that point all eyes to You. And pour out Your love upon the camps of displaced people, covering the children and women especially, protecting them from abuse and harm. Invade traumatic memories to bring forth healing like only Truth can. And draw every heart to Christ in such a way they cannot resist Your love. We ask for a great awakening, Lord, all throughout the world. Wherever people are oppressed, rise up and fight for them, not just for their earthly needs, but for their souls. Rescue them from the prisons of sin and death the enemy has prepared for them, and give them new life, peace, love, joy, forgiveness, freedom, rest … like only Jesus can.
