With both Muslims and Christians attending the funeral in Mayuge, Uganda, of a convert from Islam to Christianity, Vanisha Namukasa’s pastor Davidson Okirori saw a unique opportunity to share God’s love.
He felt the Lord leading him to speak from not only the Bible, but also the Koran and Hadith of Bukhara to show “the fact of the unique and powerful resurrection of Jesus as the Son of God, while at the same time mentioning that Muhammad, being just a prophet of Allah, did not resurrect.”
But his words of Christ’s love sparked rancor and hate. The Muslims pelted him with stones until he fell unconscious. The Christians were able to restrain the Muslims and get Okirori to a hospital, where he is recovering from wounds throughout his body and in need of prayer. Father God, thank You for sparing Davidson’s life. Please heal him quickly and completely. Heal his mind and heart from the trauma, as well, O God. Shield both him and his church members, from further harm. Surround them with Your presence and peace. Speak tenderly to them. Increase their faith and cast out all fear with Your perfect love. Empower them to forgive and to communicate that forgiveness in such a way Muslims will be stunned by the joy, peace and love in their hearts and hunger desperately to know You. Thank You for Davidson’s courageous love, that he would share Your good news with his Muslim neighbors knowing it could cost him is life. Remind the Muslims who heard his message that day of the verses spoken from Your Word and convict them of Your truth. Meet them in their dreams, give them a hunger to know more, and show them the way to salvation. If they seek to further attack Davidson or others in his church, open their eyes to see Your angels standing there guarding Your people. Strike those bent on evil with fear of the Lord and bring them to their knees in repentance. Awaken every Muslim in this region to You, O God, and increase Your church greatly. Raise Your people up to shine Your light with such power the darkness is eliminated and thousands turn to You from Islam, worshipping Jesus as their Savior and walking in the abundant life only He can give.
