Where Tensions Are Rising

These last few days in the RUSSIA-UKRAINE war: The shelling of a hospital in Kherson killed a doctor, injured a nurse and damaged two floors. Among other attacks to Ukraine’s food supplies, a grain storehouse in Odesa was destroyed. Meanwhile, Ukrainians are vigorously working to remove the Soviet hammer and sickle symbol from Kyiv’s prominent Motherland Monument before their August 24 Independence Day celebrations. Drone attacks recently launched against Moscow, Sevastopol (Russian-annexed Crimea) and Russian battleships on the Black Sea.

As we continue in our prayers for nations devastated by war, let’s also pray for these nations and borders where tension is high:

POLAND-BELARUS: Due to alleged airspace and border breaches, Poland has moved more than 1,000 military personnel near its eastern border, as about 100 Russian Wagner Group troops in Belarus have moved closer to Poland.

NIGER: Gunfire rained down on protesters marching in support of their democratically elected leader after soldiers detained the president in a coup attempt last week. Following a violent attack on the French embassy Sunday, several nations are now evacuating their personnel from Niger.

INDIA: A mob of Hindu extremists in New Delhi opened fire on a mosque and then set it ablaze, killing an imam and wounding others Tuesday, just one day after four people were killed and dozens were injured in clashes between Hindus and Muslims in Nuh, Haryana State, where thousands of paramilitary forces have now been deployed. Just over a month ago, Hindu cow vigilantes tortured and hung a Muslim for carrying beef from a vendor near Mumbai. Others Muslims have also been arrested by police or brutally attacked and lynched by radical Hindus for carrying beef. And in Manipur, Hindu Meiteis continue to assault Christians and burn churches in clashes that began in May.

SENEGAL: Two men died during protests Monday over the arrest of political opposition figure Sonko. Last month, anywhere from 16 to more than 30 died in similar protests regarding the same candidate.

LEBANON: At least 11 people have died since Saturday and many are wounded in clashes between rival Muslim factions in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon, which is struggling with severe economic and other crippling issues of its own. At least 2,000 Palestinians have fled their homes.

Lord, in each of these instances above, many are grieving and others are in need of rescue, healing, shelter and provisions. So many deaths and dangers remind us of humanity’s desperate need for You. Please meet those who are afraid or hurting, touching them and speaking to their hearts in such personal ways they will know You are the One they’ve been looking for. When they cry out to You, answer them, O Lord, and show them the way to salvation. Give them a hunger for You and then satisfy them with Your felt presence. Put Bibles in their hands. Make a way for them to hear and understand the gospel message. Bring Christian counselors, medical workers and other aid workers to those in need. Guide seekers to local Christians who will love them into Your arms. Be a Shield of protection around the innocent and especially around Your people. Keep them from harm and bless them so abundantly they will also abundantly share with those in need around them. Stop the violence. Bring to justice those who torture and kill. Replace hatred with a desire for Love so strong Muslims, Hindus and other terrorists and murderers will lay down their weapons, repent and seek Your salvation. And set the captives free, Lord. Awaken the nations to Your love and mercy. Awaken every mind and heart to Truth like only You can.
