Where the Floods Rise

In Pakistan more than 55 people died recently due to heavy rains, including eight children caught in a landslide. Neighboring Afghanistan saw more than 31 deaths, 74 injuries and 41 missing.

Typhoon Doksuri left at least 39 dead and caused extensive flooding on many islands in the Philippines, with tens of thousands evacuated. On Friday, the typhoon killed at least one and injured 68 in Taiwan. More than 400,000 people in Fujian, China, have now been evacuated because of the storm. In Beijing, at least 11 (updated August 2) have died in the floods and 31,000 people have been evacuated.

At least nine people in Gujarat, India, lost their lives last week, bringing India’s flood death toll up to 102 since June.

Heavy rains and landslides in Colombia killed at least 12, while 20 went missing in Cundinamarca.

Extensive flooding in Nova Scotia, Canada, left two dead and others missing.

In the USA, floodwaters killed one person in Kentucky, and another in Indiana. Other areas suffering from flash floods include Florida, Illinois, California, Vermont, Ohio, and Maine.

In Russia, a severe storm injured 76 and killed 10 in Privolzhsk federal district yesterday. Eight of those died when trees crashed into a campsite on the shores of Lake Yalchik.

Lord, please have mercy. Comfort those who mourn and rescue those in need. When they cry out to You, hear them, O God, and answer them. So many people have died already without the chance to know You. They will spend eternity now apart from You. And so many more are yet in danger of dying. Please, Jesus, make Yourself known now to every person in Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and every country suffering from these floods. Meet them in their dreams, talk to them throughout the day. Part the way for Christians to help with rescues, aid, counseling, medical needs, and provisions. Give Christian aid workers favor with authorities, and use them to share Your good news widely. Use this terrible tragedy to bring about a new movement of Your Spirit with millions coming to faith. Move displaced people into areas where Christians can take them in and care for them, showing them Your love and speaking to them the truth about Christ. So many of those, especially in Muslim and Hindu nations, have been cut off from the gospel. They live in fear daily, devoted to religions that cannot save them. Please, Father, step in and save them. Don’t let even one more person die without the chance to know You and experience the joy of salvation and eternal life.
