Sudan is 91% Muslim and ranks in the top ten most dangerous countries for Christians. Converts from Islam to Christianity face violence, sexual assault and imprisonment. For years, conflicts have erupted between the Hausa, the Berti and other Muslim people groups in the East African country. And now, for the past three months, all-out war has blazed between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. More than 3,000 people have been killed, with more than 6,000 wounded and over 3 million displaced.
On Thursday, armed men attacked a team of 18 medical workers with Doctors Without Borders. The humanitarian aid workers were carrying supplies to one of the last two hospitals still operating in war-torn Khartoum.
Lord, please have mercy on the people of Sudan. Protect all those providing humanitarian aid, especially medical workers. Make a way for these two hospitals to continue operating, and for other clinics to open to help the thousands of innocent people wounded in all the violence. Chase out any fear, and meet every aid worker in powerful ways, healing them from trauma, giving them courage to continue helping the people of Sudan, and drawing them to Yourself. Provide for those who are in need and make a way of escape for civilians who are trapped. Open the way for many Christian counselors, aid workers and medical workers to provide shelter, medicine, food and other resources for those who have been wounded or displaced, whether within Sudan’s borders or in surrounding countries. Give Christians favor with those around them and also with officials. Use them to share Your Good news in a way they can easily understand. Plant within each heart a deep hunger to know You. O God, some Muslims have been turning to Christ in this region because they see the violence and hatred of those who serve Islam. May every Muslim in Sudan and beyond seek Truth with all their hearts and find Jesus. Guide seekers to Christians and churches who will share the Gospel with them in a way they can easily understand and with a clear demonstration of Your love. Perform signs and miracles and wonders to turn all eyes to You, Lord. When those bent on evil lift a hand against an innocent woman, child, man or Christian, let them see Your angels guarding them, tremble in fear, and fall to their knees in repentance. Father God, please bring about stability in this region. Put firmly in place a government that respects equality and religious freedom. Heal every heart and mind affected by violence and persecution. Strengthen and multiply Your church. Give every believer a deep knowledge of Your Word, with courage and Your empowering to share it with those around them. Anoint evangelists and preachers, young people and teachers, Christians from all walks of life to share Your Good News far and wide. Bring about a great church planting movement in this region that spreads all throughout Africa and beyond. Meet the lost in their dreams to show them who You are. Awaken all of Sudan to the God who is Love.
