After six months of learning about Christianity, 22-year-old Abudu Amisi chose Jesus as his Savior on June 22, but feared for his life because of his former ties to a Muslim missionary and the Islamic community. Christians provided a rental home for him, and he remained indoors for two weeks. But on July 8, Amisi and two other men from church went to a market in Kasasira to buy food for a Christian training. A mob soon gathered around Amisi, calling him “a betrayer of Islam” who “should not see the light of day.” The Christians ran to get help, but by the time the police arrived, Amisi had already lost too much blood from knife wounds. He died on the way to the hospital and is survived by his wife and a three-year-old son. (See the full story at Morning Star News, July 13.)
More than 83% Christian, Uganda has no laws against conversions. Persecution comes from Muslim communities seeking to terrorize Christians.
Lord, have mercy, please. Be a Shield around every Christian in Uganda and protect them from persecution and harm. Provide for Amisi’s widow and son, and protect them from further attacks. Be Husband and Father to these two who have lost theirs. Surround them with Your presence and peace now, Lord, and speak tenderly to them. Increase their faith and cast out all fear with Your perfect love. Empower them to forgive, Lord. Give every Muslim a hunger for Your love. Meet them in their dreams and point them the way to salvation. Any time they seek to attack a Christian, open their eyes to see Your angels standing there guarding Your people. Strike the terrorists with terror of the Lord and bring them to their knees in repentance. Move through that entire Muslim community, striking people “blind” as You did Saul, and giving them such powerful visions of You they will give their lives to You and bring entire Muslim communities and people groups to You. Awaken every Muslim in Uganda to You, O God, and increase Your church. Raise them up to shine Your light with such power the darkness is eliminated and thousands turn to You and worship You alone as God. From this terrible tragedy and so many other situations where Christians have been martyred by Muslims for their love for You, please bring forth great good. For every Christian who is persecuted, bring 1,000 Muslims to faith. Awaken every Muslim heart in Uganda to Your love, and call them into Your arms to be saved. In Your name. Amen.
